Duct Tape badge request
on: May 25, 2020, 09:57:46 PM
Forgot to put this one when posted in my  topic ("How about a 30-day Work Champ challenge?"), so will do now:

Day 19

Even more repairs done with the duct tape today. The molding on a small door went loose, so I used double-sided ultra-strong transparent tape to fix it. Seems to hold much better, than the glue someone originally sealed it with.

Traditionally scissors and pliers were handy.

Thought so, but to me it’s still duct tape even though it’s double sided

I'm sure you can find a good use for the stuff and you'll get the badge - just get the real thing.

That's near duct tape.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

How about patching a hole made in a Therm-a-rest sleeping pad? That should do I hope

alexanderre, congrats on the badge, and do you think that duct tape fix will last on the Therm-a-rest?  I have the same thing, but just curious whether it could hold long enough for a short weekend trip.

Thanks, guys

As for the fix - I can’t really say, though I used super-strong 3M duct tape for the fix, so if such thing can do it - it will.

I only use the pad inside of the tent, so should not face any serious friction or scratching

Anyway I need to take it somewhere and actually use for some time to know for sure

I would think it should be good enough for a field repair on camping equipment - certainly, it would last through a weekend trip.

This is the sort of use that I would think deserves a badge on this sort of forum.  We don't get excited when you corkscrew to open a wine bottle, and we certainly don't get excited if you seal your HVAC ducts with duct tape.  Patching up a tent, hydration system, or an air mattress?  Covering a blister?  Using it as a fire starter?  Stabilizing a tent pole or hiking pole? Now that's the spirit!
