Surge and Utility Blade?
on: August 13, 2020, 01:48:10 PM
I recently  find myself doing a lot of cutting tasks that would be better done with a disposable utility blade than the main blade on my Wave. Instead of carrying a box cutter and a MT, I am looking for one with a replaceable blade. The closest seems to be the tool holder in the Surge. Bosch makes T-Shank knife edge blades.

Has anybody tried using such a knife in the Surge? Does it fit and cut cardboard?

I have no knowledge with that specific blade, however, I can confirm that Surge's blade exchanger will take any Bosch T-shank attachment.

You can get an adapter from Shapeways to change one of your Wave's blades out with a disposible blade holder, WS Speed has one and they look really handy for box cutter type tasks  :tu:

Great suggestion, thanks!
I checked Shapeways and found a No. 4 scalpel holder for the Wave that replaces the serrated blade. Exactly what I was hoping for!

I’ve been harping in about this for years, along with proper blunt nose pliers
I purchased a Rolson multitool several years ago that incorporated a standard sized Stanley blade. It was bought for no other reason than to prove it could and can be incorporated.
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

Another option would be the Gerber eab lite if you can find one. I generally use one at work for things I wouldn’t use the surge blade for. It’s tiny and fits a standard Stanley blade.
