Hey you Wenger fans - What is this Packlock system ?
on: September 14, 2020, 02:32:46 AM
Hello Knights,

Was 'doing a bit of work in the Wiki' yesterday and noticed that the Wenger 85mm locking system was referred to as the 'Packlock' System.

In my head I had never read this carefully and always though that it was known as the 'Padlock' System.
So I checked some Wenger doco, and to my great surprise it is referred to as the Packlock System.

Is this its real name? Surely not - What on earth is a packlock?

Can anyone enlighten me?   ???

Or is this one of those translation errors or typos like we saw (boom boom) recently with the Victorinox Glass Saw - incorrectly labelled as the Disc Saw.

This error btw is still present in the Victorinox site - alongside the incorrect size of the SD for all 111mm liner-lock models   :pok:
Not noticing it for ten years is bad enough - But not correcting it now you know - is inexcusable!!
  :twak:

I just assumed they called it "Packlock" because it sounds vaguely outdoorsy.

Digging through the Wenger catalogues in the Wiki has been interesting. Packlock is referred to by name and seen in photos at least as far back as 1979. I thought it had appeared more recently, alongside the Evolution models or something.

It's always been a weird name to me.

A translation error makes no sense to me. I don't see how blocage de sécurité or Sichterheitsblockierung would translate to packlock but I guess you never know :)
Packen in German loosely translates to grip, grab or grasp but that still makes no sense. Also, they speak French in Delémont :dunno:

Is that your comment Huntsman, on https://www.sakhome.com/304372165 ? ;)
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.
