SAK pruner/grafter blades in a 91 or 93mm
on: October 18, 2020, 05:51:53 PM
...knife. I’ve have this gardening knife with the best damn looking blades but I’d much rather they we’re in a 91mm or 93mm alox frame - a Farmer X with naughty looking clip point would be fantastic for example.

I’m guessing the pins are 3mm?

They are in a 100mm knife of course but are much shorter than the frame so hopeful someone has already tried this?

I have lowered the bill hook blade/pruner, so its does not sit so high, changed the brass bush to a stainless steel one. hope this helps.

Fantastic, that looks great. The bush is handmade is it? Is it  just a piece of brass/stainless rod cut down and filed flat?
Thanks for the pics. Really makes me want to have a go at this now.

Hi there, I turned down a piece of brass/ stainless. and hammered lightly with a mallet. then drilled the hole to 2.25mm. I tried it with the smaller blade along side and bend the pruner blade over, it did not work I broke it. live and learn,
To lower the blade in the handle, I filed the kick down, cut/filed a notch out of the spring so the top hook of blade would set deeper in. the spring has been bent,  ( this took me for ever ) To save having a washer in I ground down the thickness of the spring. I did all this slowly bit at time, as I have never done this before. Something a bit different make a fork out of an old table fish knife.

its all a working progress at the moment things may change its a 12 layer paper weight and growing. looking for more blades to buy/swap and mod. Lots of sanding & polishing to do.

Epic build. Love the fork... just taken delivery of a hobo knife a few days back so that’s right on the button for me. I also like the idea of 58mm tools on the back layer...thanks for the advise and the inspiration!  :salute:
