Comis,

I was thinking - why don't you open your challenge to XAVTs as well? I am sure there are several people on this forum owning a XAVT who would be willing to put it to (light) use (if only to get one if your famous fridge magnets;-), and for us spectators it would be equally good fun to see the XAVT in action. After all, the Giant and the XAVT are both very exclusive flagship models, so why not allow both to the challenge? It would be great if you gave it a thought.

Cheers,

Simon

Simon, thanks for the suggestion.

We did have a STACK challenge this year which included the Swisschamp XVAT, and since this is a somewhat specific Wenger Giant Challenge, as much as I like to see more people to join, just not sure they are the same animal.(afterall, it's 15 vs 49 layers).

Even the thought of 49 layers sounds giant

I understand but would like to point out that we didn't see a lot of XAVT use during that Challenge; too many "sane" alternatives were admissible.  :dunno:

Only have 3 Wengers, and I'm certain that none are the giant.

I'll sit back and watch.

I'll join you on that ☕. I'll be picking up an XAVT soon for my youngest once he gets his Eagle Scout award.  He's wanted one forever.  Luckily he doesn't want a Giant...I don't think our floor boards would stand that kind of immensity!!

Come to think about it, it's hard to recruit enough of Giant owners and am starting to think about expanding the challenge to include possibly XVAT or some of the largest toolset within the SAK product lineup, to be a little more inclusive.  But I probably have to approach FB about the change, and may have to change the narrative a little bit since we are expanding...

I am thinking to expand the challenge to include, the following models:

91mm  XXLT, XAVT
111mm Workchamp XL

All these weight more than 300g, and each are the real heavy hitters that set them apart from the rest of the pack.  What do you all think? :pok: :D

That's a good suggestion, hmmm, but that probably would also mean we would be inviting all the other 10 layers or similar weight SAK, such as Swisschamp XL and XLT.  Would that be too much overlapping with the STACK challenge or what would you think?

I'm hoping to have an XAVT or a Workchamp XLT in my stable soon.  I'd love to join!

I think you should keep it very exclusive and crazy, in accordance with your original idea. So if I were you, I wouldn't allow the Workchamp XL - it's just too mundane and affordable. To put it with Groucho Marx: I refuse to watch any challenge into which I could afford to enter!

Thought about joining this as my first challenge if I could pick one up for not a ridiculous amount of money. Seems pretty hard to find and I'm seeing prices around 2k, which just ain't gonna happen :ahhh

The reviews on Amazon are pretty funny :D

After given it some thought, I decided it is probably more fun to be more inclusive on this challenge, I will now be changing the narrative of this challenge, and please stand by for the newly named challenge--Mad Max Challenge! :D

Folks, the new narrative is up on the front page! :woohoo:   Please do have a look!

Right now the challenge is opened up for Victorinox 91mm Swisschamp XAVT, XXLT, 111mm Workchamp XL, Wenger/Delemont EvoGrip S54, Tool Chest Plus and the Giant, and we are free to rotate between these models throughout the challenge.

Comis, this is unfair!  The SC XLT is just as mean and  more expensive than the S54 and Workchamp XL! I therefore demand this challenge be open for the SC XLT (and hereby enlist if you comply...). The XAVT/XXLT are (apparently both discontinued) freak accidents; the SC XLT is the real flagship of the 91 mm line!

Edit: I promise not to submit any vanity pics, just old fashioned use case pictures. I might even throw in a spectacular scale change at the start of the challenge (no promises though)
