What is this? "Parachutist"
on: November 08, 2020, 10:22:01 PM
Nitram found an awesome one-hand opening Swisstool Spirit on a Singaporean website.
Looking through their other Victorinox related swag I found this strange looking "Parachutist"
https://www.military.sg/shop/lockblades/77-victorinox-parachutist-knife-3184.html
It appears to have just the belt-cutter blade and the Phillips screw driver. I can't see any reference to such a thing on Sakwiki so I'm wondering if it's a new SAK. It only costs 24 euros which sounds about right for a single layer 111mm.

It was introduced last year, I think anyone could order it from Vic if they got at least 30 pieces.  At $28, I am surprised it is not sold here in the States. This makes it pretty much the cheapest 111mm in existence--and it's fitted with Dual Grip scales! The Alpineer here is $33. That confirms my suspicion that it should be a "really cheap" model back when it first came out.

When the funds allow, I'm buying this with the Spirt MXBS from this dealer, since I doubt for sure this Parachute Knife won't make it to the USA. I recently got myself a Dual Pro X, and it's very heavy for a three-layer knife. I can get a lot of farm work done with just the blunt tip serrated blade and Phillips. Seems SG prices of Vics are better than USA.

Since the minimum order is so low, I'd love for a Stayglow MTO version.

Oh, sorry for the false alarm! I missed that previous thread.
Surely it deserves a mention in Sakwiki, where there are only 4 single layer 111mms listed. It's the Cowboy's weird cousin!

Cowboys and competition ropers often carry the fully serrated Spyderco EMT knives with rounded tips, in case they get caught up in the stirrup or ropes. So, you could sorta call this one the "Roper". As I know my Dual Pro will cut a lot of stuff more quickly than my Byrd Rescue 2 (same serrations, just cheaper steel than the regular Spydercos)

And not a false alarm at all. I know that finally, Victorinox is making it available to anyone who orders at least the minimum, as opposed to it only being available to military and civil defense organizations. Hopefully, like the MXBS it sees more use worldwide.

That looks weird, like they used the wrong end of the handle.

Ok, but... on a single-bladed knife?!

...easier to repurpose existing tools...exact same (secondary) blade as on Hunter XT, Hunter XS and Dual Pro knife, so reuses the liner lock and probably only a minor change to the back spring.

Now listed here https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Parachute+Knife

Great job Max!
Thinking about it, you can see why they're almost reluctant to sell this model. For most people in most circumstances it's like the SAK from hell - no normal blade (serrated or straight), no openers, no scissors, no saw... most people are going to be looking at it, wondering where all the usual Swiss army implements have disappeared to.
Still, 24 euros... I'll probably order one before the night is done!

I agree - it's one of the more minimalist SAKs...I like how super thin it is...  :salute:
