Truthfully, I think that they are onto something with the Free series.  They just rushed it and needed to develop it more. The potential is there. I would like to see them improve upon it. I also think that in a quest to sell to everyone they have lost their way.  Basically a jack of all trades, master of none. I’m hoping that they can give up on developing tools for skateboarders, skiers, surfers, and circus clowns, and refocus on their core.

yea...and make CLOTHING WEAR!     :twak:

I don't think they are coming back from the path they are on any time soon. Its going to take a competitor to force change.

Thing is that they already make some of the most successful MTs on the planet.  I'm not sure they need to try and replace the Wave or Charge any time soon (though nothing wrong with some improvements).  They've been trying for years to replace their own Micra but I see the Style SC has now followed the Squirt S4 into retirement.

I actually get the point of the Sidekick etc.  Unlike the Free tools they're not competing with their own Wave, Charge or Rebar.  The Curl seems to be doing the same thing as the Wingman in concept but better (I hope).  If the Bond isn't slimmer than the Rebar then I really don't get it. . The Kick might have had a load of unused space but it was still slimmer than the Fuse and Blast

Good point about the Blast and Fuse being wider than the Kick :salute: So they do know how to do that  let's just hope that they do  :ahhh

SOG makes backpacks and Victorinox makes clothing, fragrances/perfume, and luggage. The Wenger name is only seen these days on backpacks since Wenger just licensed the name to that company originally. Most other cutlery companies may have coffee mugs, hats, and T-Shirts, but they don't market them (and I especially like Spyderco's).

Another example of "What were they thinking?!!" is Maglite.   I like Maglite because they are USA-made.  Olight usually has 3-4 new models a year or more. Maglite hasn't had one in several years. Instead, they've been making a big deal about a backpack line, product placements in film and TV, and a series of Marvel-licensed flashlights. I'm wanting a Solitaire-size light that.  As of late, . I then said to myself "With what they invested in the backpacks, product placements, and the Marvel license, they could have easily footed the R&D bill for multiple new lights, as those agreements had to cost millions".  Despite the fact I'm not crazy about where they were made, I usually choose Olight. The i1R, i3T, and i3EOS all match my requirement of a roughly Solitaire-size light that puts out 100 lumens. And they all seem more efficient on batteries. And thus, I own 3 i1R, lost count on i3EOS, and picked up an i3T recently.

In my opinion, when a company has a specific product they are known for--specialize on that. DON'T use the brand name and recognition to branch out on other items they should not.

I think Maglite would be well served by at least spending the what, 5 figure budget it would take to make the Solitaire USB-C rechargeable. Otherwise I think as a brand they're better off making incremental improvements on the same designs rather than new designs, their iconic heritage and side use as a  :twak: is all they really have going for them nowadays.

Maglite boggles my mind...20 years ago they had an issue with parasitic power drain issues in their lights...they never ever fixed it...the brand new one has the same damn issue! Sorry...I don't give a damn if it's made in USA..lazy is lazy.

I always carried my 4 D - Cell "Flash 'n' Bash" back in the late 80's - early 90's whilst on night duty  :twak:

I've wanted one for a while, but it's hard whenever money becomes available to justify it on a  :twak: stick instead of a new tool or knife  :dunno:

I'll have to stick to adequate brightness torches and putting my knees out running like a food  :mn:

They had a video of a factory tour the other day. They had a bin of what looked to be Bond handles coming out of a press. So I would say soon. He also briefly discussed that they were making parts for another unreleased product, but wouldn’t say what it was.

OK, so watching the video; if you go to 2:11 you see him hold up a handle. It look to me that one side is indeed flatter than the other.  Or, to put it another way; if you look at the end for the pliers head only one side actually flairs away, the other only has a slight bump near the top.  Hopefully this means the Bond is indeed going to be a few mm (or one long tool space) thinner than the Rebar.

It says "sold out" I suspect not in stock

https://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/leatherman-bond-edc-multitool-60540-p.asp

Can't say it excites me  :dwts:

If it doesn't have O/S OHO tools then it's just a non-locking Rebar/Wingman/Sidekick type thing  :dunno:

They don't like it up 'em!

I like the idea of a non locking Rebar, as it's really a nod to the original tool, the PST; and with pocket clip, a Sideclip!!! Now I wonder if there's a spacer/thick washer in place of the serrated blade, and if it will accept it.
:like: :like: :like:
Edit- I'd rather pay $50 for this than the Sidekick/Wingman series! :multi: :tu:
