Adding a 'Light My Fire' Firesteel to Worchamp SAK
on: January 16, 2021, 12:10:29 AM
So I'm new here and not sure of anyone's tried this before, so I thought I'd post it anyway.

I have a Mk1 Workchamp SAK and I only just realised recently that it doesn't have the 2nd smaller Phillips head screwdriver under the scissors. Luckily I got it at a massive discount from a supplier many years ago so I'm not too worried.

Anyway I figured that extra space below the scissors could be useful, and spotted even more space under the 2 saws. Turns out the gap was about 6mm wide (and varying depth), which is big enough to fit the ferrocerium rod on a 'Light My Fire' branded firesteel. Only problem was a the massive red plastic handle.

So I spent this evening with a hacksaw and a Dremel and managed to cut off enough plastic to make it fit in the gap, with still enough plastic to hold when I take the Firesteel out.

More photos.

This will only fit if you have the original Workchamp without the extra screwdriver.

Looks like that’s worked really well. I carry a firefly or fireant on my “outdoor “ SAKs but they’re very tiny and fiddly, the LMF is a definite step up  :hatsoff:

I did look at those but couldn't find anywhere that delivered to the UK for a reasonable price.

I did find and buy some small 'firesteel blanks' that fit under the pliers, but when I spotted the space under the saws I decided to 'go large'  :D

I keep a BSA HotSpark on my keychain, it has been the spark to many a great night under the stars.
