Day 12

Spent the morning with Mrs. P hitting some of the local estate sales, garage sales, and junk shops.

I didn't find a single SAK - nada, zilch, zip, rien.

Mrs. P came home with a trunkload of finds.   :(

The Mini Champ trudged along with me on this hopeless quest for lost kin.

Now back home, enjoying the evening.

My wife wouldn't be caught dead at yard sales and such.

Day 13 - No use so far today.  I’m a high school teacher though so in my summer “off” time, I’m teaching other teachers foe the next two weeks.

DAY 13

To smoketh yon brisket,,,,,, thou must first openeth yon brisket,,,,,, with thine Esquire.

Last weekend I walked out to the garage and noticed water in the floor. Turns out somebody left the freezer door cracked open and most everything had thawed out. Salvaged this little 10 pound brisket, which has been wet aging in the fridge all week waiting for today.  Trying something new,,,, gonna smoke this little guy hot-n-fast on a Weber kettle.

Love me some smoked brisket.   :tu:

I haven't tried a hot smoking before. I'm interested in your experience here!

I know some pro's will smoke at 275ºF or higher, but I've always stayed in the 210º-250º range. What temp are you aiming for? Or is it a case of mo' hotta, mo' betta'?  :D

Day 13.
Light Sunday read.
I had the good fortune to meet Chris Lubkemann during a vacation trip, nearly 7 years ago.  Loved how he chose to use a simple Victorinox Tinker to do his carvings.
The MiniChamp is a bit jealous that it wasn't picked.

15C and Minichamp lite
Nice 15C!  :tu: Only made from '82-'89, but was a popular scientific calculator in its day.

Day 13: I love all this vintage electronic action!  Not even remotely vintage, but it's a calculator.   :D

Looks like that has a great protective cover Barry!  :tu:

Day 13
Orange Alox still in my fifth pocket. Got put to use picking some parsley for the pork pie filling mix.  :salute:

Today's calculator is an HP-14B, 50th Anniversary Edition made available to HP shareholders and employees in 1989.

I always do hot and fast on brisket. I have cooked one at 400 before,,, great bark and quite juicy. On the kettle today I'm trying to keep it between 275 and 300ish. Hard to keep a kettle stable though. So far it is looking quite legit. On a hot/fast cook I'll take it to 210 internal, then rest. If it turns out good I'll post some pics in the cooking forum. If you don't see a post,,,,, well,,,, It probably didn't go to good then.

DAY 12  I carried my Director today, and had a chance to use the orange peeler as an opener.  I didn't have high hopes for it on dog food bags, but it's awesome!

Day 13:

Over Winter, we run a heated bird bath. The birds love it!

To keep it going, I plug it into a long extension cord. To keep snow and ice out of the plugs, I wrap them tightly with plastic wrap and silicone tape. With the risk of frost over now, I used the Esquire to cut the tape away and store the extension cord. The surgical size and sharpness of the Esquire's blade makes for a perfect tool do cut the tape away without damaging the cords.

Great work and pics, everyone! :hatsoff:

Day 13

After this morning’s bike ride (took the Litespeed out - such a different ride from my Pearson!) which was surprisingly warm and sweaty despite going at at 7a.m….., the squirrels were clamouring for more nuts - 8 of them! Ah well, so I opened up a new bag using the scissors on my alox minichamp which sits on my keychain- it me just me, but I find these scissors easier to use than the serrated Wenger ones, though I do like the spring mechanism (dare I say it, very Leatherman-like) which appears more robust than the Victorinox spring solution - but then I did buy the Victorinox spring tool and spares so that shouldn’t be an issue!!

Nicely done all round Rizio. I do like Litespeed though I've spent my day on my Enigma. I do like the ride quality of titanium.

So, Day 13 and whilst preparing dinner the Classic Mountains helped cut up some Jersey Royal new potatoes to steam and then helped me create a little cardboard model of some mice and a block of cheese out of an old cereal packet. Just amused me to do so and the Classic main blade was good for the delicate cut out work.

Day 13

Beer duty!

Today we have the Palm IIIx. By 1999, Palm (under the 3Com umbrella) was pretty mainstream, though Microsoft had shown up with Windows CE handhelds.

This Palm had 4 MB of memory and a backlight!

This is the first Palm I used, bought new. Before that, I'd used a Texas Instruments Avigo - anyone remember those? (The Pilot 5000 and PalmPilot Professional I showed earlier I acquired later for my collection.)

I visited Enigma a while back - very nice indeed - loved their 853 steel machines when they were Omega - I quite fancy a gravel bike/winter bike to replace the Pearson when I hit 60 (not that far away!) - then I’ll have a Ti trio - Litespeed Tuscany (20 years old)  for the road on nice days, Airborne Lancaster (15 years old) for hardcore off-road and an Enigma gravel/winter machine for everything else! But I am a Ti tart!

Love the mousey carving, by the way!  :hatsoff:

Day 13

Got takeout this evening. Classic helped pry off the 4 staples that kept the little paper bag closed.   I first opened the bag by hand but the staples that I pulled open were now pointing like little thorns inside the bag... Scratching my arm as I try to reach in.

Popped the staples off. Once I got to the burger I used a kitchen knife to cut it in half.

Problem is - my beer is in a bottle, and being crafted in Spain, doesn't twist off.

Use the SD tip to loosen the cap. Then the edge of the nail tool to pry it up and off.

...or pop into the kitchen and grab a bottle opener.   :D

I used a real bottle opener that I used to have attached to my keys...  I wonder if this thing is going to make a re-appearance on my keys.

Day 13

Classic Alox had a some uses today.

Scissors helped to trim some tags from my little girl clothes.
Knife helped to open a pack of salt and after that, some packets of dried herbs. At the end of day, I uses the blade to open a bag of dog food for my two shih tzu.

Feels pretty ideal for a pocket knife, to me. Small enough to be very comfortable, but large enough to get some work done. The 58mm's are very capable, too, but the 74mm's have enough horsepower to take on larger tasks with greater easy and simplicity. Case in point: cutting up a lemon or lime. The Classic can, but the cuts need to be a bit more strategic. The 74mm's just get it done.

I love those 74mm scissors as well!   :tu:
