Root canal?
on: January 19, 2009, 12:21:37 AM
Hey guys, have any of you ever gotten a root canal? My Fiance has a horrible toothache and I am almost certain it is a infected tooth. Worst part is, our dentist can't take her till the morning.. Do any of you guys know any household remedies for toothaches? She has beautiful teeth, though so I don't know how it happened.. Thanks

In 29 years, I've only had a few cavities!

I have heard that if you take a good solid dash of toothpaste and apply it on the tooth it will stop the tooth ache. I never had a hole in my teeth so I don’t know if it works, but it’s worth a try.
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

try orajel. We have some and it works great. It will numb the pain for quite a bit. I use it and also give baby orajel to our 11 month old and it helps trust me.

Also if she drinks maybe a quick shot of Jack to ease it up a little.

I've had a root canal done. It was possibly the most painful experience of my life, before during and for a while afterwards. It was three years ago and I can still imagine the pain in a very real sense now.

The worst (best?) bit was that the nerve wouldn't die, and they couldn't get it all out at first. They kind of had to pack everything back in (along with a morphine coated dressing) for a couple of days and send me home to "let it die properly" so they could remove it.

The procedure itself is basically, torture. The anesthetic they use helps a bit, but the vibration that shakes your skull as they butcher you causes it's own sort of pain that the anesthetic doesn't touch. And it takes a while. Quite a while.

I'd think carefully before sharing that experience with her if I were you  :P

I used to come here a lot.

Boil a tea bag and place it next to the tooth and chomp down on it.  Sometimes it works.

Well, clove oil did indeed do the trick! She went today, and got a temporary filling.. All the dentist did today was drill a hole in the tooth to relieve the pressure so she won't be in pain anymore..
