How good are the 58mm scissors?

Overall for everyday use how effective would you guys say they are? Compared to say the 91mm models or the Wave/Charge scissors.

They're excellent--just as good as any other Victorinox scissors, just small.  Most of the time I don't carry scissors on my main multi/SAK because I have a always have a Victorinox Rambler on my keychain.

For me, a sharp blade frequently works better than scissors for many larger tasks.  Tasks that I use scissors for are nail trimming, thread cutting, etc., so the 58mm scissors work for me.

The 58mm scissor is wonderful.  Theres not much it cannot do as far as everyday cutting is concerned.  The 58mm is very easy to carry so I'd say as for convenience its better.  Being a smaller scissor there will be challenges but those scenarios are overlooked by the usefulness.

I have kept a 58mm Manager with me since about 2013 and never felt under prepared.  It actually helps when I want to carry a Tinker or Recruit for example.  I was in the mindset that ALL SAKs had to have scissors and to an extent its not a bad mindset, that said, the 58mm scissor can take on quite a lot.  You may have to nibble at larger things but I don't try to cut things out of the scope of their capabilities.  Thats the same with my 91mm scissor as well.

I was needing to cut up a plastic almond milk container and had my 58mm and a trad with me.  It didn't make sense to use the 58mm scissor so the trad got the call.

Thanks, for you're input fellas. I'm thinking of getting the Jetsetter. To pair it up with my leatherman rebar.

Good thinking.  The scissor and the phillips/opener combo tool are the 58mm tools that I use the most.  They're both very effective, and you'll likely be surprised at the range of phillips screw sizes it will fit.

Yeah, that screwdriver is a great tool. Combo 0/1 and magnetic to boot. The rebar comes with a 1/2 Phillips. The rambler is nice too, but the rebar comes with a file, and the small blade on the 58mm isn't very useful IMO.

58mm Vic scissors are unequaled in their size range, and I generally find Vic scissors of any size superior to MT scissors made by other companies.

However, I do find the larger Vic scissors (e.g. 91 mm) superior to the 58 mm, due to the ability to take bigger “bites” and apply more leverage.  They also fit my hand better, while the 58 mm feels a bit small and fiddly by comparison.

I like them a lot. When using the 58mm scissors I’ve never found myself wishing they were 91mm. However, there have been times when using 91 mm scissors wishing I had a classic on me, mostly with grooming and first aid.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the bigger ones and consider them a must have tool on all my Vics, but the 58mm will generally do everything the larger ones will, even if it takes more cuts.

They’re quite good and robust for their size!

Remember that they’re only 58mm so leave big projects like cutting cardboard or anything longer than a hand to bigger scissors.

One advantage I found was when the kids were less than 10yrs old, they were very comfortable with the 58mm SAK, especially the scissors.  Everything from ketchup pouches w/o nail nicks to small snips in school projects, the 58mm scissors can handle.

Seems like the scissors are alot of bang for you're buck. Good quality for the size.

This exactly.  For the size, the 58mm scissors are one of the most useful tools.  There are some things the 58mm scissors can’t handle but you would be surprised just how much they can.  A Classis, Rambler or Jetsetter is awesome to pair with a larger tool that doesn’t have scissors.

Victorinox scissors in general are great. The fine tips allow for some fine precision cuts. My testing is still in its preliminary stages, but the 58mm scissors seem to be better at the precision cuts that their larger brethren.

I'd be lost without the scissors on my Classic, they come in handy on an almost daily basis.

Just buy a Classic SD and try them out!

Victorinox rules the roost on scissors: 58mm, 74mm, 91mm. All of them do the job well.

I find the 58mm are good for trimming fingernails and small tasks. I once cut up some wire twisty ties, and the blades survive undamaged.

The 74mm scissors  are interesting. They seem to be an answer to a question no one asked. They work like 58mm scissors but with longer handles, so are probably best suited for people with big fingers.

The 91mm scissors can do everything the 58mm can do, and more.

I find it difficult to trim nails with 91mm scissors. There are tasks that smaller scissors are better suited for.

I agree!  I said the 91mm can do everything the 58mm can do, and more....  but I didn't say "better".  ;)

They work great. I have a MT scissors comparison that is in hiatus at the moment, and the 58mm scissors compare quite well to other MT scissors. They suffer a bit in comparison to larger scissors when it comes to thicker, tougher materials, but that is to be expected. Otherwise, they are some of the best scissors available.
