Casio Tough Solar: what batteries do they use?
on: November 06, 2021, 07:45:47 PM
One of my Tough Solar Casio is more and more rarely showing Max battery charge, even if I let it out in the light. I think it may need a new battery soon.

These batteries are not just any batteries, right? They need to be rechargeable, since the watch gathers energy from light sources.

Am I right in this? I was thinking of buying the new battery to install it myself, but want to make sure I get the right one.

Anyone knows what battery type/model I should get?

Thanks!

  :salute:

I believe they use a CTL1616, but this may vary depending upon exact model.
Which watch is the errant one?

It's the GW-7900B-1ER. I manage to get the charge to High, after leaving it near a light source but if I wear it the next day, with minimal use of functions (mainly alarms and timer), it goes down to Medium. It didn't behave like this a few months ago.

Yup, that one uses a CTL1616.
You can try leaving it in direct sunlight for a week, or possibly 2-3 weeks if charging through a window. Failing that, if you have the right tools then have a go at replacing the battery, or for complete peace of mind get it done at your local Casio dealer/watch repair shop.

Thanks, will do. It spends much time indoors, with artificial lighting only. I'll try leaving it close to a window for a couple of weeks, as you suggested. Maybe that's just the boost it needs to get back to full charge for longer.

I have a lamp with an LED bulb. I found strapping my ProTrek to that for a few hours bumped it back up from L to H. Yours might be a bit borked though, if you're getting such erratic low charges.
Let us know if it works out...
