Continuing with the minimal SAK theme, today it's a Bijou. I picked this one up at an estate sale in August.
:like: It's always nice scoring an unused older SAK that's complete with box and paperwork!

Today I got out the evowood 10. Almost the same toolset as the sportsman, but no pin. Before I went outside I decided to switch to the evolution 10 due to weather.
Nice Evo duo. (I will be showing a bigger Evo later on; y'awl likely know what it is.) We got a little snow today, but nothing needing removal...so far.

Day 6

Here's another older SAK that got minimal (if any) use. I'm a bit of a sucker for a tent and "camping," so I was happy to score this Camper. The out-the-door price was under $20 (closer to $15, if memory serves me correctly). I have yet to find a used Camper of this vintage with the tent and "camping." I think I did pretty well.

Funny, we had about 8" of snow yesterday when I plowed, but it was still snowing. It's actually still snowing, but looks like time to get after it. We typically get 120-150" a year around here. That's including all 3 types of snow. Regular, lake enhanced and lake effect.

Fx- the Jeep had the 2.5l fuel injected.
120-150" of snow!!!! Jeezus...

I thought the three types of snow were Snow, More Snow, and Dear God Will This Snow Ever Stop?

I'll live with the few inches we might get over the winter.

Day 6

An old Alox Companion, picked up at an estate sale last month for $2. It was well-used by the previous owner, as shown by the paint worn off around the edges of the scales and the heavily-resharpened blade.

The tip of the nail file is snapped off and the broken edges are ground smooth, whether to just smooth the break or to turn it into a slotted screwdriver, I don't know. As it has no key ring, SAKWiki says it's an original Companion from the 1970s (so no screwdriver tip on the nail file originally).

I don't carry it as I prefer a different 58mm for EDC. I picked it up not knowing what it was at the time, just thought it looked cool and the price was right.

That's a great camper! I used to think that the tent/camping logo was kind of silly, but now that I am older and possibly wiser  I really like it. It's kind of a classic touch.

Great find for that price. I like those nicely worn Alox models. I bet it's had an interesting life.

Today I got out the Alox Pruner. It's a nice slim knife with a small tool set. I don't carry it, but the pruner blade works great for opening those clamshell packages.

That one has some character, and I bet it could tell a story or two if it were able to talk. Nice pick-up!

Nice, and another one that's on my must-get list. But then again, every 93mm model occupies a spot on that list.

Day 7

There's no story behind this Spartan. It was offered at a good price and included a key ring sharpener. I don't carry it, as I want to keep it all nice and pretty. Today it serves as a tribute to the 2,403 people who lost their lives in a surprise attack 80 years ago today, as well as those who sacrificed and endured for the next 3.75 years. I do suppose it could also serve as a tribute to BGEN Yeager. The glass contains Kahlua.

Day 7

It's Two-fer Tuesday!

My Longyearbyen Svalbard Rambler and a regular Rambler with a pin mod.

I bought the Svalbard Rambler on eBay in October. Surprisingly, the back scale has the logo on it. Wikipedia says that Longyearbyen is "the world's northernmost settlement (with population greater than 1,000)". I'm guessing this Rambler was made as a souvenir item. I doubt I'll ever get there, but I think it's pretty cool that I have something likely from there.

I was going to use this SAK as a daily, but decided that the Svalbard polar bear scale was too nice to damage, so it's a display model now.

Which is where the other Rambler came in. I picked it up off eBay after deciding I wasn't going to mess up the Svalbard. Originally it had a black back scale. I replaced that with a spare red scale I had, after cutting a slot into it for a pin.

In the end, I decided to EDC a different 58mm, so this Rambler stays on my desk. I've used the small Phillips several times - very handy.

But if I didn't have the other 58mm, the Rambler would be my small SAK EDC choice. I like it much better than the Classic SD because of the combo tool. That small Phillips is great, the bottle opener is handy, and my hex bit coupler fits over it.

No use today for the display Svalbard, but I carried the regular Rambler and used it to open a stubborn battery compartment and pry out the 9V battery in it. It also opened some boxes.

That's a very cool "souvenir" rambler. Definitely one to keep nice!

I like the rambler for the same reason. It's been slowly replacing all the SD's on keyrings around here.

Day 8

I got this tourist at a yard sale. I don't remember exactly, but it was under five bucks I'm sure. Still in the box complete with papers. It looks brand new. It's a fairly recent production, but I didn't have one, so it had to come home with me.
I put it next to a spartan for size comparison.

Day 8.5

Today I ended up carrying one of my trusty swisschamps in a  Zermatt belt sheath. There's so many problems I can solve easily with a  champ. While I was retrieving it from the drawer I saw this secretary. I've had this one for quite a while. I carry it occasionally around the farm. It's the thinnest and lightest knife I own.

A mighty nice Rambler duo! I wouldn't want to mess up the Longyearbyen Svalbard scales, either.

Good score! I am apparently the only one who has not had good luck finding SAKs at yard sales, estate sales, junk shops, and similar venues.

It's the thinnest and lightest knife I own.
And smooth blue Alox, too... :like:

Day 8

Today I stuck with two layers, but in 84mm. This Small Tinker is the only 84mm SAK I own that isn't a Bantam. I noticed its reamer has no sewing eye and didn't wait long before buying it. Only when I got it in hand did I discover it was an 84mm. It doesn't get much use, but I did test out the main blade's sharpness on some paracord.

Day 8

I've got a Cavalier for today. I don't see many of these. I don't know if they're rare or just old so uncommon.

I carried this one daily in the mid '90s when I had a tech installation job that required a lot of national travel. For working on computers, it had most of what I needed. But then I tried to cut something really tough (don't remember what now) and bent the blade backwards somehow. After that it wouldn't close completely (the photo shows as far as it will close). I ended up replacing it with a first generation Mini Champ.

I don't know why I've kept it all these years. I guess I didn't want it sitting in a landfill and thought I could fix it, but never have. Now I've got enough other SAKs that I don't really need to fix it, but I still don't feel like parting with it.

I did pop the scale off, but can't tell what's causing the closing issue so don't know what to fix.

The SAK Wiki's Cavalier page makes no mention of rarity. I'd say it's at least uncommon, and probably not produced for a very long time. It's a cool one, that's for sure. (I'd also suspect a damaged spring is causing the issue with the blade not closing properly.)

I hear the 58mm cut and picker blade works well on plastic clamshell packages also.
Indeed it does.

Excellent! No doubt the recipients enjoyed them. Keeping one for yourself was a good move. I have a bit of a soft spot for Tinkers...

Day 9

I'm sort of going back to my roots here. The first SAK I ever bought was a black Tinker. (Actually, one of my parents bought it for me, as I was 12 or 13 at the time...but it was bought with my money.) I promptly dropped it in my pocket and carried it to school, and everywhere else. I was convinced I could handle just about anything life threw at me with little more than that Tinker. It long ago left my grasp, but provided it hasn't had anything replaced, it's extremely identifiable.

Fast forward awlmost 30 years. When I decided to seriously collect SAKs, this was an early addition. Aside from the Wounded Warrior Project logo and the changes implemented over 25-30 years, it's much like the black Tinker I had as a kid. I could have polished out the blemish on the front scale, but I decided instead to get another and carry this one. The nostalgia factor played a part in that decision, too. Today it helped free some new head coverings from their packaging.

Day 9

OK, here's my main EDC 58mm SAK - my Mini Champ Plus. It started out as a standard Mini Champ II. But it always annoyed me that I could carry only tweezers or toothpick in the one slot it had. And after I discovered 91mm Plus scales, I wanted a pin in it also. So some mod work with a scale from a spare Bijou got me onboard tweezers, toothpick, and pin - the Mini Champ Plus.

I documented the mod here: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,87486.0.html

Attached to the Mini Champ Plus is a suspension clip, spring clip, small lanyard, and a Photon Micro-Light flashlight with a couple of small N52 magnets on the back.

The second pic shows the pocket EDC kit I keep with it. The suspension clip on the Mini Champ slides into the side of the pouch. In the pouch I have:
- Hex bit coupler with bits: 4mm hex, 5mm slotted, #2 Phillips, hex bit to 1/4" socket drive adapter
- M2 Seber Tool
- Leatherman By the Numbers 3
- 3 feet of 95 paracord
- 5/8"x1/8" N52 ring magnet

For EDC context, I live in a house in the suburbs. My pocket EDC kit comes from past times needing a screwdriver, small pliers, or a small wrench. It's not meant for surviving an apocalypse.  :)

I usually also have a 91mm on me, usually a Swiss Champ. So maybe between the two Champs, I am ready for most anything?

The nostalgia factor played a part in that decision, too.

Nice tinker

In my case the nostalgia factor is often more important than the practicality.  :tu:

Day 9

OK, here's my main EDC 58mm SAK - my Mini Champ Plus.

I usually also have a 91mm on me, usually a Swiss Champ. So maybe between the two Champs, I am ready for most anything?

Day 10

Today I have a pioneer.
Actually my first SAK was a pioneer old cross that came from a garage sale. 1981-82 ish
This example is one of my favorites. I love the red shield against the black scales.
