Waiter with pen
on: December 14, 2021, 11:26:36 AM
Today I added standard pen to my Waiter - creating 84 plus scales. I used the file on 111 Tradesman to file down the channel in the back scale. The width of 111 file seems to be just perfect fit for this purpose.
In my first attempt I did not create the channel deep enough so when I put it back the pen did not fit so I had to remove the scale one more time to remedy it but now it all fit nicely with just enough friction to keep the pen in.
At the end I sligtly filed the plastic head of the pen to be better aligned with the scale.

Nice.  :tu:

I did Recruit scales last night.

Used a lot more tools though. Both types of 111mm metal saw, stainless 91mm, two round burrs and sandpaper.

Might have added something after that.  ;)  Also did a new set in black Recruit/no back tool scales.

Just a tip about checking the fit before mounting scales…check the clearance by putting the scale on a flat surface like a smooth countertop. Watch from the side as you push a pen in. Any daylight or uplift of the pen means you still have work to do. No movement, then you’re good to go.  :tu:

It’s just too bad Victorinox doesn’t make them! Not a lot of room to squeeze the pen in and maybe they don’t like how close it needs to be to the lug holes.

Bump to add my work this weekend.  Mine isn’t quite flush yet, and I won’t modify the pen so that it would still fit into my compact flush.  But it’s usable now.
