Cargo pants related only:
I only used to have big pocket knifes or recently 4 layer SAKs. In cargo pants leg pockets, the knifes ride horizontal and are unconfortable. But 2 layers are fine, dont give the feeling of bumping.

I wear tactical pants that have hidden pockets (inside the main cargo pockets). My SAKs are carried in those hidden pockets. Usually they stay vertical. Right now I'm seeing how a Leatherman Rebar carries in said pockets...so far, so good.

I carried many in my pants, up to a Swisschamp. Cadet was unnoticeable, Mounteneer (or other 4 layer) was fine when suspended. But in my bag I can carry whatever I wish, so it's one layer now in the pocket, such as an Opinel, a Merkator, a Spyderco or a Solo.
