Form & Function balance accomplishments
on: February 17, 2022, 05:48:46 PM
I know, I know, beauty is in the eye of the tiger, or something like that.
And Switzerland isn't Italy, or Denmark or France. But they speak both German and French and Italian there, so they sure know something about blending form with function in a delicate and not mutually excluding each the other.
According to your subjective view, which is a perfect example, a highlight or an apogee of this sacred art of creating an object that is equally a capable tool and an artform, Swiss made ?

For me, these scissors are a perfect example. They are made from (or for) Victorinox, although I'm not sure if  the original design is theirs.

It is a lovely design with a long history from many countries  - my better half has examples of that design made in Sheffield. Didn’t know Victorinox was doing them to now.

You are right. This is an omnipresent item, you may have one for 4 euros, Vic sells them for 40.

OK, something more "SAKy" then, the 130mm Delémont line. Beautiful, streamlined like an Italian Supercar and tough as a Landrover. Locking, one hand opening, big blade and some useful tools like a longer and stronger saw for example, compared to the delicate 58-93mm tools.

To be honest, I prefer the originals, with Wenger style can opener and awl. They suit the line perfectly.

That’s more like it! I have the 71 with the extended lever for the scissors like the one on the pliers here - excellent design and function! My favourite around the garden! :like: :like: Great yellow scales too!

Those scissors are really neat, and I need to try out one of those larger SAKs.
