Best place to buy Opinels in the UK?
on: April 05, 2022, 05:42:29 AM
I've never had an Opinel before, they're cheap enough to get at any point and all that, but the bug is setting in again. Checking Amazon their prices seemed a bit steep, and Heinnie* was even cheaper with a better selection!

Is Heinnie going to be the best shout for an Opinel in the UK*?

*I have access to a coupon code for Heinnie to reduce the price a smidge, that wasn't factored into the comparison though.

*Factoring shipping costs into the mix, of course

I would highly recommend buying an opinel in person. Some blades are warped more than others.

Should mention I've only got carbon ones, stainless might not have that issue.

I wish I had that luxury. The nearest brick-and-mortar store that carries Opinels is almost 300 miles from me. Luckily, the (stainless) blade on my No. 6 is nice and free of any warping.

A good tip and I'd love to, but buying knives in person here isn't the easiest with the 'knife crime' fear thing.

Plus for personal preference I prefer doing as much shopping online as possible at the moment due to covid, but very much appreciated advice!

You. This is all your fault with your variety of nice coloured ones  :twak:

Since you want to buy online I see no reason to buy from just "UK" based online shops.

It is not like amazon.uk's profits stay in the UK.

There is a thread with various European shops that may help.

Also amazon has several EU/worldwide sites and some may be cheaper, though there will possibly be import taxes  etc.

Heinnie look pretty good on price, being at the lower end of the average £10-11 range that most UKish places are charging.
Camping shops often have better discounts in the actual shop, especially franchises like Go Outdoors. They often come in 'sealed' boxes though, so I don't know if this blade warping is an issue. My No8 was perfectly straight.

I must have over 20 Opinels, mostly SS, including a few of the plastic bodied models and none have any issues with the blade. Maybe it is a NZ related issue :) .

I like to try them before buying, at a shop, as some of the wooden bodied models can be a bit sticky and some can be too loose.

Also check Antonini knives (Old bear model), MAM knives and Nontron knives

I said UK to show where they would need to deliver to, not that I require the store to be a UK company. I'll take a look at that thread, thanks

And Heinnie does not seem to have the nice colored ones on offer. I hope you're able to find some for yourself...but if not, let me know, and I'll do my best to help out.
