The Milwaukee Fastback Tanto is one of many low-cost knives with a Benchmade-style lock that have came out after the AXIS Lock patent expired. I'm left-handed, and linerlocks just don't work out well. I don't find many low-cost, but decent lockbacks around here. A low-cost knife with an AXIS lock is a gamechanger, especially when it's sold by a well-renowned tool company, carries a lifetime warranty, and is available most places Milwaukee products are sold.

It's no Benchmade, but for $15-20, it's good when I don't want to carry my Benchmade for fear of loss or damage (aka yard work, working around morons). I took out the assist spring, as I was afraid it would open in my pocket at the time. With the flipper tab, it won't open all the way with the spring taken out, but a wrist flick will do it. Been meaning to put the spring back in. Misplaced it, found it, misplaced it again.

Steel is pretty decent, and actually seems better than the soft stuff in the Tradesman fixed blade. It's held the edge I put on it. Would I have bought it new? No, I didn't--it came in a used lot. Would I buy another one---yes, in a heartbeat. It's one of my budget favorites.

Room for improvement in the design--a thumb stud/slot/hole would be nice, and for the knife to be able to be smoothly opened with the flipper or a thumb stud without the need for an assist spring.
