Day 06 addendum

Neat little project.  We're very happy to have some bird feeders out in our garden and the suet pellets are very popular.  Unfortunately the birds are pretty messy and spill a lot of the pellets.  This is utterly awesome according to Molly, but less good for her waistline.  ;)  This comes to me improvising a catch tray for the feeder that hopefully means more of the suet gets eaten by the birds and less by the dog.  All cutting tasks carried out by the tiny I.XL.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Thank you, kind sir! :hatsoff: And the quality and variety on show herein is absolutely superb.

Day 6

Today I'm going with a Camillus 21 Pony Jack. I fished this one out of the Bay. Aside from sharpness testing, it's seen no use...but the day is still young. :)

That is beautiful knife, love the grind on the blade!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 06
This Schrade USA 219 would be a perfect 5th pocket knife because it is so small.   It's unfortunate that my pants don't have 5th pockets. The back springs on this little guy are nail breakers!

Yes, it's a Buck 501 / Squire.
This was a DLT special with micarta scales and S35VN steel.
The Squire is a beautiful little knife that I carry frequently :tu:

On this special run they seemed to miss the QC a bit though.

You've got a nice little Buck yourself there  :like:

Day 07

RR Copperhead today.  A huge difference from the tiny I.XL pen-knife from yesterday.  Another that I don't pocket carry all that much, mostly due to it's stout proportions.  A nice knife to use, but sits just a touch heavy in my pocket.

A bit delayed, here's the nailpuller of my trades, will be leaving this RR splayed out as shown to try and soften the springs:

Day 7 -
Lazy today, still using the Buck solo, it is only knife that made the trip via checked luggage on earlier arrival.
It does cut and is much smaller than my normal pocket carry.

This morning it was laying on the checker board , when I sat my coffee mug down.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

PS:  I really enjoy your pictures and different instruments of sharp.
The Sowbelly, the 303 Buck, even the scales on the 110!  👍
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

That's interesting.   None of my RR have nail breaking backsprings on them.  I've got one of their other Whittler patterns that I'll need to dig out and use this month.

It's primarily the main blade, the spring for which appears to be the two smaller springs that service the smaller blades. This is my only three bladed trad, so I have no idea if that's a normal design, it just feels like if  I take the nail nick at the wrong angle it'd go very badly  :dunno:

Sounds like the same setup as my Whittler.   It actually is one of the stiffer springs on any of my RR, however not a nail-killer either.  Most likely there is some variation in the heat treatment over time.
