The Old Man - Jeff Bridges

Incredibly entertaining, highly recommended! It’s like old man John Wick with dogs. In Hulu.  Plus it’s The Dude.

He uses a knife in the 1st episode. I can’t seem to identify it. Spyderco Byrd? Hopefully someone with a “specific set of skills” can do better. Sorry no pic. I’m not good with tech.

Thanks for that.  Hell or High Water, which I believe is on Netflix is also worth a watch.  Almost everything he is in is pretty good.

Would love to hear everyone’s feedback on the series. Especially if they identify the knife!

I don't recognize the knife.  Has a rectangular hole where the Spyderco hole would be.  It may have a false edge along the spine.  I'm going with a cheap knockoff knife for now.  I don't want to go back and examine just yet, as Mrs. Powernoodle would think I'm weird.

No worries. Appreciate the try. Yeah the hole kinda threw me off which is why I went with the Byrd. Short blade too. Episode 2 showed him using it as well. But not a good view I think.

Does anyone have a screengrab of the knife?

You are awesome. Wish I knew my technology. Thanks!

Well I’m stumped. Looks like a flathead slot for a pivot and a liner lock?  Maybe it is some sort of knock off.

I took a pic of the tv screen with my phone.  This will be our secret, okay?

I'll have a look around tomorrow, but I doubt it's Spyderco related, the design cues aren't there IMO.

Is it a button lock? It looks like one, the overall design is a little reminiscent of Bob Terzola (sp?)

Come to think of it I think the blade came out like an automatic. No finger flicking. When I get home I’ll rewatch it and check.

Right, based on the pictures, so far it looks like a model of Buck Impact:

-Push button out the side auto

-Clip is the right shape/cant and I think I can maybe see the anvil marking

- looking closely it looks like there might be a grip inlay

-the grind looks right in satin

Basically this but with a satin blade (sans billboarding for advertising reasons?)

Darn you folks are good. I thought for sure it was a no name brand.

Can’t wait for Friday’s episode. This and The Boys is what keeps me up. Kills my biorhythm as I wake up before 5 am to go to work.

But man this show is so good.

Well done, peoples.

I just want to state my krazy, very unlikely scenario for how The Old Man plays out.  I am predicting that Dan Chase, the main character, actually has Huntington's Disease and is dying in bed - and that the entire series is a figment of his imagination as his wife and daughter are at his bedside.

For those who don't know, filming of The Old Man was suspended due to covid, and then Jeff Bridges learned that he had lymphoma.  After his recovery, filming for the last 3 episodes resumed in February, 2022.

Man that’s a good plot point. So maybe the daughter he talks to on the phone is just his delusion? The phone is actually dead?

That would explain a few things.

When I saw the ads I thought is was going to be geriatric John Wick, but it's way better than that.  Y'awls posts are what made me give it a try.

Ahh yes. That explains the air date on Hulu. It said 23rd but was not available to view.

Amazing catch on the knife.  I've been watching this series and really enjoying it.  It is edge of your seat exciting and there have been some plot twists that came completely out of nowhere.

Right?! Wife has me doing errands  and have to wake up early tomorrow. So might have to catch up Sunday.

But man those dogs! We have a Yorkie that we love to death. I wish he had half of their training. No cgi: https://thecinemaholic.com/are-the-dogs-in-the-old-man-real-or-cgi/
