February (and bookends) Camper challenge!
on: January 25, 2023, 12:49:59 AM
Why bookends? The challenge runs from 31 January 2023 until 1 March 2023 (to work around overlapping challenge periods). Usual challenge rules apply: Carry a Victorinox Camper during the challenge period. Use any or every Camper you own. It should be your primary tool during that time. Post a photo every day that the challenge runs. Have fun!

I checked and only have a Hiker so I ordered a Camper yesterday. Hoping it gets here in time to begin the challenge.

Considering the short notice, this is a good turnout! And I'll be hosting a Hiker challenge later in the year.

DAY 00

I was very surprised when my Camper I found on the EBay arrived in time for the Challenge.
I carried it Sunday and it disappeared compared to my trusty Explorer. So far so good.
It traveled with me today as well. This might be fun after all.

Nice timing! I like the camping logo. It is amazing how thin and negligible the saw layer is, you barely notice it is there.

Day 1:

Here are my two Campers that I'll be using on the challenge this month.

Both are modern SAKs and I actually bought the one with the camping scales brand new. The other Camper was my primary tool on a project to reroute an air conditioner condensation drain line that runs under a sink in my basement several months ago. The saw works great on PVC pipe!

Also, I really hate that the camping scales are going to be discontinued, at least according to the latest rumors.... They are awesome!

Day 1: Heres my camper. I made some quick and dirty wooden scales for the challenge.

Today is a snow day at home with the kids and this morning the camper did work removing staples to disassemble a notebook for my son.

DAY 01
Starting off the challenge with this white camper from the early 90s. It hasn't seen much pocket time so figured this would be a good opportunity to give it some use. Used the saw to cut a small dowel flush on a futon frame that I'm currently building (not pictured here)

My early '80s camper will also be making an appearance during this challenge.

Cheers Campers!

I'll be over in Edged Tools representing the Knights with a Soldier '08 for the combo edge challenge. Looking forward to following along with y'awl though.

DAY 01

Figured I'd put a lil lanyard on it for the month. Sure rides nice in the pocket. No uses thus far today.

The saw works great on PVC pipe!
I had to shorten some plastic spacers recently, and a Vic saw was the only suitable tool I had. Worked pretty well!

I made some quick and dirty wooden scales for the challenge.
Lookin' good! :tu:

DAY 01
Starting off the challenge with this white camper from the early 90s.
Nice and clean! Does it have a logo, or just a reverse cross?

Sure rides nice in the pocket.
They sure do!

Day 1

For at least the first few days, I'll be showing this 1986-1991 (ish) Camper. Today I took a photo of it in some snow. If I can find a nice unused example, I'll carry this one semi-regularly.

DAY 02

I took myself a sandwich to work and it needed to be cut. Camper to the rescue.
Honestly, I use all my Victorinox knives for food prep primarily and incidental cuts thru my day.
Occasional other tool uses just for quick fixes until I can find a better solution later.

DAY 02

Used the Flathead driver on the white camper to tighten a large flat head screw on the underside of a table I was putting together- worked wonderfully.
Bella insisted on being in the shot.

Day 2:
Today was a long day, and in the final hour I had to break out the trusty corkscrew to untie a knot. First time for that use.

Some sharpness testing was necessary. Not too shabby!

I carried a Camper for awhile...it was a great tool set!  I still have an older one with the Camping logo on the scale.  If I weren't in the Combo Edge challenge I'd have done this one.  I did it a while ago and it was fun!

Me too CM.  They're great kitchen cutters and easy to clean up.

Day 3.

Got some use out of the blades today. The small blade opened some mail…

And the main blade opened a package.

DAY 03

Working my way thru the lunch meat I over purchased. Needed a slicer again and the Camper to the rescue. Used the awl afterwards to open up a package at work.

Honestly never feel this Camper in the pocket. Why have I been torturing myself carrying an Explorer all the time?

oh ya

DAY 03

Used the small blade to open some doggie treats. It was a cold walk at sunset, the early '80s camper accompanied and the awl was used to open the plastic doggy bag. Those pesky bags always seem to stick together when you're trying to first open them up. Especially when it's frigid out  :twak:

The campers awl to the rescue!

Today was another home day due to weather but the camper helped me open up the last of a couple of parts knives I ordered.

Seemingly every plastic bag does that!

Did that one get Micarta scales at some point?

Day 3

Dang near forgot about the challenge...so just a glamour shot for today. This Camper is rotating out tomorrow.

The new donor knife is a tinker that someone made some 3d printed scales for. The scales are pretty cool so I am planning to smooth them a bit with sandpaper and see what I want to put them on. This was my first time handling a backside phillips in many years, I think I like it!
