I saw the little video with the Malloy brothers.  It showed some of them cutting up some trout, meat, etc with a blade that looked remarkably like the Kizer Cabox that I stuck in my back pocket yesterday.  Short, maybe 3 inch blade.  Very deep blade.  Is that what the Leatherman 007 is going to be?  Best wishes.  G
 :D

It’s literally a 3D printed ripoff of the Benchmade Hidden Canyon, right down to the unique backspacer.  The Harvest was clearly a ripoff of Benchmade’s Saddle Mountain.

Well, at least I don't have to feel bad for missing out on these while I'm going through money issues.

It looks like the ingenuity of this batch is that the Garage engineers pushed their limits with micarta  scales.

A fixed blade that cut trout, meat, etc. then to be frank, it does not impress me that much. We already had the 006 as a fixed blade and it seems to not impressed many customers already. I don't see the innovations as what Garage supposed to be

Still not sold out.  The least that they could do is tell us how many were made. Especially after dropping that kind of coin.

I would love to hear the story behind this collaboration, and precisely what the McKenzie Brothers added to this big project.

My guess is that they approached Leatherman and asked to do a collaboration.  That could be the Garage aspect of this tool - how they designed the knife in collaboration with Leatherman.  :dunno:

Maybe. I hope it’s more than adding micarta handles. I wish that they would have added something.  Sort of like how the old hunting knives has the cool diamond sharpening rod. Anyways, I don’t know how many were made, but they are once again embarrassingly still available.

I'm sure the price is partly responsible.  It makes me selfishly hope that they charge a lot more for future Garage releases to improve my chances of getting them.

Oooh my ...1900hrs here, and they haven't sold out. I'm no-knife guy and can't get a hold of what a good knife might be but, seeing another "release" go south and even becoming "stagnant" from LTG ...
I wonder if they have stopped listening to their customers; I mean, here in MT.o and FB and Reddit they have a good followimg, presenting good, clever and ingenious ideas and they seem to not read/listen as I do NOT see any of these come to fruition. I'm very conservative, old fashioned and, can be somewhat narrowminded: seeing Leatherman "pushing into" the knife market is like seeing Mc D's pushing Red Lobster's menu into their customers (sorry for the narrow minded, simplistic approach; that' s how my mind is behaving lately).

Buck releases limited edition knives all the time, and they often don't sell out until several days, especially fixed blade knives... and that's a knife company!  I don't think there is anything wrong with a Garage release not selling out immediately.  I actually prefer it.

I’m inclined to agree.

I think for most of us, the ideal situation is that we personally buy the last one. That guarantees they’re exclusive enough to go up in value, but no danger of us missing out.

People complained online they couldn’t get a Mr Crunch or Darkside at retail price, no they’re complaining the latest is still available eight or nine hours after release. Seems a bit like Leatherman can’t win with that aspect of it.

I don’t think anyone expected two straight Benchmade knockoffs.

:iagree: Somehow I'd be a bit more receptive to these fixed blades if they were sold as a collaboration, rather than under a program that's supposed to be about testing things out.

I think my only complaint with Garage is that Leatherman usually doesn't make enough of a release to satisfy the need.  Everyone that wants one should have a a chance to get one (within a reasonable timeframe).

I’m honestly really curious to know how the Arc is doing, sales-wise. Given that it’s essentially just a mass production version of the Garage 005 (minus a few of the nicer touches), if they’re managing to sell a lot of them at the $230 price point, it might encourage them to try other “premium” tools for people willing to drop the coin, which could potentially mean seeing production versions of 001/002.

I sincerely hope the 006/007 items are just filler while they work on another innovative multitool. Not that I expect Leatherman to make a bad knife, but I really want to see products from them that I can’t get from any random knife maker.

The stitching on the back of the sheath is just horrible, could be done better for a $300 knife!
Below is an example of how it should be done on the front and back of the sheath.

The Garage series is rather dead to me anyhow. Just a money grab and I consider them all highly cynical. I did manage to get the first one at a too high price. At that time, they didn't put it up for sale in Canada so I had to buy second hand for a just released tool...and you know how that hit the wallet. I tried to get the second in the series, but it sold out right quick and by the time I got off of work, it was too late. I refused to go after it second hand as I paid way too high a price for the Mr. Crunch. At least the first one had some sort of historical aspect to it. This latest one at 400 dollars for a knife...well all I can say is the Garage stuff is not for me.
A little Leatherman information.

There have been rumors circulating that the Garage was started as a project to keep Tim Jr occupied so he doesn’t destroy the company.  Every release seems to further bolster evidence to support that.

The 007 looks like a fun little knife, and the commercial/video for it is good.  I like the blade shape and the sheath, and would get one at $119 shipped.  But it doesn't fit with what the Garage concept was promoted as being, is $150 or more overpriced and is drowning in a sea of excellent small fixed blades.

The opposite of love is not hate - it is indifference.  We criticize Leatherman because we care.  It would be far worse if we were indifferent.

Here is a comparison:  2.91" magnacut fixed blade with burlap micarta scales and leather sheath: $169.

Or.....it's true no matter how sad it is. I've worked for companies like that. Kind of like Tommy Boy.

To be fair, all of the actual multitool releases from the Garage have ranged from good to great, so if Tim Jr. is in charge of those, I'd say he's doing a pretty good job. It's just the knives that have been disappointments, because that's not Leatherman's core competency. Not sure why they're so determined to go down that road.
