To be fair, all of the actual multitool releases from the Garage have ranged from good to great

I don't see it.
The only thing that interested me is a Spring-action Needle Nose Pliers with an adjustable pivot, everything else are the same: Charge/FREE P4 implements/tools with some "expensive" materials.
And Mr. Crunch pliers look interesting too, I mean the idea.

I guess a lot of it comes down to personal taste. Everyone seems to respect the 001, but I would have loved to have the 002 Darkside with the G10 handles and extra attachments, or the 005 40th Anniversary Tool, which was essentially a better version of the Arc with spring-loaded pliers, ceramic coating on the frame and blade, and a unique color scheme. It frustrates me that Leatherman didn't put that version into production and instead cut corners on the Arc, particularly with the pliers. The tool is already expensive enough that I would have thought nothing of adding $20 to the price tag to get the best version.

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get either model from the Garage, and while I might wind up buying them on the secondary market, they would just be collector's pieces: I'm not going to put a $600+ multitool into EDC service.

What a shame if it's true.

I'll put all of my money down on that it isn't.  You can't believe even half the stuff people put out on the internet.

I agree that it comes down to personal taste.  For example, I disagree that the Garage 005 is a better version of the Arc - the flat-tipped awl on the 005 is just lame.

It's just the knives that have been disappointments, because that's not Leatherman's core competency.
:iagree: They did okay with the Crater (I think) line, but those were knife-based multis. I guess the fixed blades are okay, but they can't compete with offerings from manufacturers who are more established in that market.

Way better than just "Ok".   It's one of my favorites 🥰  although it had a long break-in period before the blade started flicking out with ease.

I know you're quite fond of the Craters, Rich. Perhaps I'll see about locating one. Meanwhile, I'm happy I got the name right!

It just arrived on my doorstep.  :woohoo:

My first impression - it's a very nice knife, and probably (by today's inflationary prices) worth the $300.  Admittedly, I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't collect Leathermans, but that's mainly due to me not liking fix blade knives.

Oh, and they sent me another Insider cup

Congrats!  Looking forward to getting mine. What are your thoughts on the micarta handles?  The reason that I ask is, well, it doesn’t look like micarta.

I do believe the price value was there with the 006 but it seems like the price goes up and the tool size goes down. I just can't get on board with that.

Hmm... Might be controversial but I can't really get behind a dedicated fixed blade when my multitool already has two or three knives on it. I miss the interesting designs like the Klamath, but just slapping a blade on a handle and calling it a product doesn't cut it anymore.

Pun not intended.

Garage designs started off extremely interesting but they must be running out of ideas fast if they're switching from experimental builds to celebrity-endorsed limited-edition ebay fodder.  :-\

Fixed blades serve their own purpose for some so I get the use of a fixed blade, LOVE mine. I carry it in addition to my multitool. (I do woodwork)

But yeah, the garage thing is on point. I get One fixed blade in the line but what happened to the INNOVATION? It is disappointing that it is going that direction.

This. So much this. I would way rather they just re-release the earlier Garage multitools in new color schemes than do celebrity-collaboration crap. Given that the cheapest earlier Garage multitools are selling for over $700 on eBay, it's clear there's a market for them; why Leatherman can't find a way to turn a profit on that is beyond me.

It doesn't feel like micarta at all - it's more like G10.  Overall, I like the handle, but I would have preferred another color.

A boring fixed blade knife is not innovative in itself, but it is for Leatherman's internal design and manufacturing processes.  Again, I'm not a fan of fixed blades, but I'm glad Leatherman is branching out and trying new things (new things for Leatherman).  I don't want just another ARC, Charge, or Free variant - I prefer new things from Leatherman.  For example, I think it would be cool for them to try making a traditional slip joint folder.

That’s why I asked. It looks exactly like G10.

Good lord. They even copied Benchmade’s unique and distinctive foam.

I’m pretty sure they have been using that foam for previous Garage releases.

What!?  How did he twist his blade in the sheath to get it to cut like that?   Honestly, that looks deliberate. If not, definitely user error.

 :o :ahhh

If they had the sheath on their belt the knife could have been place in at an odd angle perhaps and if very sharp then I guess that would be possible :dwts:

I'm sitting here playing with mine, and it would take a lot of effort to cut it like that.  The knife is sharp as smurf, so I don't doubt it could cut through... maybe he bent or twisted the sheath.  :dunno:

This may not happen when you twist the blade in the sheath, but when you insert the blade into the sheath at the very beginning.

The tip of the blade should catch a bit of the sheath at first, and when inserting the blade into the sheath like this (the wrong way), you simply cut them.

Like I said before, the sheath is just cheaply made, and stitching is absolutely horrible.

Shame that these sheaths have the "Made in USA" stamp on them, could be done better in my opinion, especially for the asking price.

To play Devil's Advocate,  isn't this what people said about Leatherman vs Swiss Army Knife back in the day, circa 1983?  How many knife makers dismissed Tim out of hand because they were knife makers and wouldn't buy his plyers based tool design.  Gerber was all about knives.  Look at them now, how they pivoted.  Swiss Tool: Vic bought Bear just so they could get legal access to patents that would bring them into the plyers-based multitool field.
Make no mistake -that's all because of Leatherman.

Myself?  I dont have a lot of fixed blade knives beyond my kitchen knives.   Right now I wouldn't know if it's actually a Benchmade with Leatherman markings, or if Leatherman made a "knockoff., but with everyone willing to try the new clone of the Wave (I forget the name), and be OK with it "as long as the quality is there", why shouldn't Leatherman dip into fixed blades?  I wouldn't mind seeing them get more into the Spydie type folders.  Maybe they will toss out something that sticks.

Leatherman can make whatever they want, but when I want to buy a good quality production knife, Leatherman is not on my list.
But when I think of Multitool, guess what company comes to mind first?

Personally, I wouldn't mind Leatherman getting into fixed blades. But to put them as Garage releases were pretty disappointing to be frankly. There were nothing innovative as what the Garage supposed to be.
