To be fair, all of the actual multitool releases from the Garage have ranged from good to great
What a shame if it's true.
I guess a lot of it comes down to personal taste. Everyone seems to respect the 001, but I would have loved to have the 002 Darkside with the G10 handles and extra attachments, or the 005 40th Anniversary Tool, which was essentially a better version of the Arc with spring-loaded pliers, ceramic coating on the frame and blade, and a unique color scheme. It frustrates me that Leatherman didn't put that version into production and instead cut corners on the Arc, particularly with the pliers. The tool is already expensive enough that I would have thought nothing of adding $20 to the price tag to get the best version.Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get either model from the Garage, and while I might wind up buying them on the secondary market, they would just be collector's pieces: I'm not going to put a $600+ multitool into EDC service.
It's just the knives that have been disappointments, because that's not Leatherman's core competency.
They did okay with the Crater (I think) line,
It just arrived on my doorstep. My first impression - it's a very nice knife, and probably (by today's inflationary prices) worth the $300. Admittedly, I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't collect Leathermans, but that's mainly due to me not liking fix blade knives.Oh, and they sent me another Insider cup (Image removed from quote.)
Hmm... Might be controversial but I can't really get behind a dedicated fixed blade when my multitool already has two or three knives on it. I miss the interesting designs like the Klamath, but just slapping a blade on a handle and calling it a product doesn't cut it anymore.Pun not intended.Garage designs started off extremely interesting but they must be running out of ideas fast if they're switching from experimental builds to celebrity-endorsed limited-edition ebay fodder.

Congrats! Looking forward to getting mine. What are your thoughts on the micarta handles? The reason that I ask is, well, it doesn’t look like micarta.
But yeah, the garage thing is on point. I get One fixed blade in the line but what happened to the INNOVATION? It is disappointing that it is going that direction.
It doesn't feel like micarta at all - it's more like G10. Overall, I like the handle, but I would have preferred another color.
They did okay with the Crater (I think) line, but those were knife-based multis. I guess the fixed blades are okay, but they can't compete with offerings from manufacturers who are more established in that market.
... why shouldn't Leatherman dip into fixed blades? ...
