U.S. made Swiss-Tech MicroTool
on: April 28, 2024, 12:01:52 AM
Picked this up on Ebay the other day.  It's an early U.S. made Swiss-Tech MicroTool.  Looks like it had never been used.  Everything is solid, even after messing with it for a few days.  Came with the box and paperwork for $27.

Nice find!

I have both the current Chinese and LKL USA Swiss Tech MicroTools. The Chinese ones are made from soft materials, and the drivers deform. You also can't cut hard wire with the cutters. The US-made ones are tool steel, and can take a beating.  I wasn't impressed with the modern one I bought as a kid, but the older US-made examples are tanks.

Among the many tools I've lost over the years, one of those Swiss Tech tools is numbered.  It was not, alas, a reliable hanger-on to the key ring.  Mine was one with tiny little screwdriver blades hinged into the larger blades, making it a really handy bladeless multi-tool for traveling.  I've never seen another like it.

I also had a "utili-key," and that also opened up somewhere in the world, and disappeared.  That was a nice one for traveling, because it hid on the car keys but had an actual, sort of knife blade, which probably was not TSA compliant, but snuck through.
