Just a little story about my first quartz watch (Seiko)....
After I finished my instrument making apprenticeship in Melbourne Australia I worked in the R & D department at VDO instruments for 9 years making prototype instrument clusters for Ford, GM, Toyota and Nissan.
One day I went over to the factory to do some spot welding for a project, I was there for about ten minutes and returned to my desk in R & D.
I looked down at my new Seiko quartz watch and then looked at the clock on the wall..... my watch was at least 12 minutes fast, I checked the other clocks... yes, 12 minutes fast!
I reset my watch and went back to work including another trip to the spot welder in the factory..... you guessed it, my watch was fast again when I returned.
I walked over to the factory and used the spot welder while looking at my Seiko and there it was.... every time I pushed to foot switch the seconds hand went around one revolution per second!
The magnetic field from the spot welder interrupted the step motor in the quartz movement (making it a non-step motor).
From then on I didn´t wear my watch in the factory.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend, cheers, John
