Recommend Storage Solution for pocket knives
on: August 12, 2024, 08:14:53 PM
Folks, I need your help.

To prevent me from constantly misplacing my pocket knives I need a place to put them.

Any recommendations on an easy to use and easy to access storage solution?

Requirements:

Hold 20-30 MTs and pocket knives. Largest MT is a MUT, smallest a vic Classic SD.

I was thinking of a little Ikea Drawer but eager to see what you folks use.

Right now I have them scattered all over the house and vehicles with some more in a plastic food container.

My first thought is a suitcase under the bed 🤷‍♂️🤔 big enough and easy to both store away and access

I think I would look into a locking security box of some sort.  Lots of thievery around here.  Something you could bolt to the floor or something.  Best wishes.  G

A pistol case might work nicely. A rifle case would definitely hold 20-30 knives and multis, and give plenty of room to expand. :D Plano makes some nice ones.

Well let’s see…

I have quite a few in plastic bins/totes.  Many of these are in their original boxes.  This is good for storage, but not ideal if you want to get them out frequently to handle, use, and carry.

I have some spread out on tables and desks.  If you have the space for it, this is ideal for users, as you can see everything all at once and easily select and access what you want.

As a middle of the road option, I have a knife roll or two.  They are quicker to access than the totes, but don’t take up your table/desk/counter space.

Unless you have cats. :)

As shown by Powernoodle, a top chest might be ideal, especially if lined with foam that has a cutout for each knife and multi.

We have one, but it doesn’t seem to bother the knives & tools.

I have a couple of wooden crates that are filled with glued together toilet paper tubes. the tubes keep everything separated and upright so I can select the knives I want to use for the day.

I use a set of drawers that my wife bought me. They arent all full by a long shot, but they work really well for MTs/knives

I too have been looking for ideas and I'm really liking the Craftsman toolbox and the short set of drawers.  Now I just need to convince the wife that I need either one of those in our bedroom.  :D

Thanks for the ideas. I must have not posted a reply yesterday. I am thinking I may go with an Ikea metal tray and hide it in the sock drawer. Between you and me, having 20+ knives or mt's is not seen as a reasonable qty by some folks.

I totally understand.  I mean, how could one possibly cover all needs and scenarios with only 20 knives and MTs?

How about a large Apache case from Harbor Freight?
I just saw where they're something like 25% off.

On some level I think the storage space should be a lot of pockets?

My storage solutions are a designated drawer in my chest of drawers and trays and old cigar box on top. Also old Cutlery storage boxes are ideal and can be found at most thrift stores for cheap and they look nice..

I didn't even think about cigar boxes.  That's got me thinking now.

The old cutlery boxes is a great idea too. A designated tool chest is also something I should consider. I keep some tools in the house but they are scattered about....garden snips, screwdrivers, hammer and the such.
