Difference between bibury bi2045 and bi2049?
on: October 02, 2024, 04:48:07 PM
I'm planning to get a bibury pliers pro and just noticed these couple more products from bibury. Both are extremely similar to each other in terms of toolset, dimensions, etc. (they come with scalpel holder too!) are they updated versions of plain old pliers pro with some extra tools in the box for blade exchanger? Do different models numbers have any actual difference in functionality? Or just different looking handles and some colour variations? Why 10$ difference in price? To all the seasoned MT experts here, please help me decide good one..

It may be that the color is the only difference.

It is difficult to tell the difference in tools by comparing the photos or data on a site like Big River since they are very often not accurate.  Might be the right photo and stats with a tool.  Might not.  If you look at Bibury's web site, maybe you can get some accurate info.  Best wishes.  G

I'm old fashioned about buying things.  I like to hold them and look at them first.  I checked out Bibury's web site.  They really don't have a listing so you can figure out exactly what each model features or even figure out what the actual model numbers are.  Best wishes.  G

There was some good information on the Bibury models in the discussion about building a $150 EDC kit.  Might be helpful.

Found the difference!
2045:
Folded length: 11.4cm
Open length: 17.xcm
Width: 3.7cm
Weight: 399g

2049:
Folded length: 10cm
Open length: 16cm
Width: 3.5cm
Weight: 270g

This is by analysing the information provided on the boxes of both tools. As 2045 is longer, does that mean it has longer knife too? I don't think that will be the case but still will be good if someone can confirm that :)

If those are the numbers on the box, either they're incorrect or BIBURY has sold multiple tools with the same model number and different physical shapes.

The major difference between the 2045 and 2049 is the visual style of the handles (Skeletool-knockoff design or Free P2/4-knockoff design; to be clear, mechanically, they both work like a Surge -- the styling is purely cosmetic) and the attachments that come with each. (See the $150 EDC thread linked above for a picture of both and a description of what they come with.)
