Canon R100 + Sigma 50 - 500mm Bigma.
on: May 04, 2025, 06:01:32 AM
I think I must be getting old, and or the little R100 is making my life a little harder. I was certain I was going to not get anything good with this combination today. I have owned the Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG HSM Lens since 2008. I was able to hand hold this with a bigger DSLR attached with no issues all day long. These days, now that it is 2025, I am struggling a little. Maybe my age is catching up to me, who knows. I do wish the lens had any form of image stabilization, but it does not. Likewise, I am still struggling with the electronic viewfinder on the R100 camera. Eyeglasses prevent a good contact with the eyecup, allowing sunlight to wash out the screen. I also found the autofocus to be challenging. The R100 has so many autofocusing pixels that the whole image is a focus point. I found my techniques wanting as the camera would focus on a small branch instead of what I really wanted. I guess for wildlife photography,  having too many focus points is not that great comparted to having only 9 AF points which allowed me to put the subject in focus 100% of the time.

Looks like I will just need to get out there more, and hone in my techniques. Maybe look for another lens with IS. Who knows.

With all that said, I did get a few nice photos which I am now going to share with you.

Today, the sun came out for a brief bit. I hurried down to the Sault Canal on the Canadian side.

Some great photos. I especially like the squirrel and chipmunks!
