Today was a beautiful day for a quick jaunt with a camera. I decided to go for a very popular walk around Topsail Island at Bellevue Park. I wanted to go very light and compact with the small R100 and kit lens. I am impressed with the little 18 to 45mm RF-S lens.

I am really liking the plucky little R100 from Canon. I figured out something that I was doing wrong, and only after examining the many menus available on it. I found where I could turn off image viewing. On a DSLR, I basically ignore it as it shows on the rear facing LCD, which does not prevent me from taking the next shot as I look through the viewfinder. On the mirrorless R100, every time I took a photo, I would get to see what I took for 2 seconds, which is debilitating if you want to take action shots. In my mind, I was equating the R100 to some of the first mirrorless cameras I had which suffered from the electronic viewfinder blanking out for a longer time than it took for a DSLR to flip its viewfinder mirror. With the 2 second image viewing, this is one super fast image taker. You could also set the image to view for longer than 2 seconds in the menu. I prefer to look at them when I get home.

Enough of how much I am digging the R100 camera. Here are the images I took today on my little walk.

The lens is not a bad performer for close up work either.

Times like this I wish I had a longer lens. Still managed to get the Gull on take off though.

The photo of the chair! I never have such good luck capturing a blue subject. How did you get that photo to come out so well?

Capturing blue is no harder than any other colour. Mind you, I always add a touch of digital darkroom to all my photos.

For some reason, the camera on my Galaxy A11 does very poorly with blue. I'm thinking it may have something to do with CFL bulbs? And what is "digital darkroom?"

I use Corel Paint Shop Pro 11 currently, but any software that you use to enhance your images such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, etc.

Back in the days of film darkrooms, there are all kinds of techniques you can do to enhance your photos. Digital more so.

For example, my workflow is rather simple. I like to check my white balance is proper, then I will add a touch of saturation as I do like bright colours that pop a little, and then I will apply a slight sharpening. This is my workflow for my JPEGs. If I am shooting RAW, then that will be more in depth.

Digital darkroom makes more sense now. :hatsoff: I presently use Photoshop Express, and still need to test out Irfanware more extensively.
