58mm Vic Emergency Tool
on: May 27, 2025, 02:07:23 PM
Might not be new to anyone else on here, but I just saw it today on-line.  Glow in the dark 58mm Emergency Tool.  Classic tool set with pen and light in scales.  Comes with a separate whistle evidently.  Several for sale on the bay.  Not cheap.  Best wishes.  G

Interesting.  I'd almost rather see the whistle as one of the tools that folds out or perhaps have it be part of the scales.

Cool, I like the lime green scales!

But, the whistle on a neck cord…

Off to the auction site.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Vic has a scale tool whistle. I see them occasionally and thing about getting one for novelty sake, but they're always very expensive novelties.

Wenger has a more traditional swing out whistle tool, but I've never seen one in the wild.

That's right... I forgot about those.  That's probably where my thoughts came from.

If you want one for the collection, go for it.  If you want an actual emergency tool, this wouldn’t be my first choice.

Might be made for the Japanese market.  If you see the tool as something you would carry on a keychain, then the whistle makes sense.  Attach it to the keychain also or fasten it to the 58mm ring.
If this is an emergency tool, it certainly would be for small emergencies.  Rough little snaggy edge on a fingernail.  Nose hair that was driving you to distraction.  Need a little light to find something.  You could probably beaver your way through a seat belt strap.  Eventually.  If someone has a piece of old nylon strap and a sharp classic, that would be worth doing a test.  The glow in the dark scales are catchy.  Probably would sell some here in the US, if only for novelty.  Best wishes.  G

It seems to be a part of whole emergency/rescue serie for Japan. The huntsman lite looks cool!

 I think I just figured out what my next project is going to be, a whistle as one of the tools that folds out.

That's certainly new to me. A Classic SD wouldn't be the only knife I took into the bush, but it may be a good choice for a day hiker or someone who highly prioritizes minimalism and/or weight reduction.

I can assure you that the 58mm blade can slice through a seat belt pretty easy and fast. Contrary to the idea that a certain knife maker started, you do not need a serrated blade to cut a seatbelt. You don't even need much blade, a box cutter will do it. And if stuck in a breakdown commuter train while its in an underground section like the D.C. Metro or NY subway, the small flashlight Will be invaluable.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

Try before you pry was one of our mantras.  In this case, try the release button before you grab a knife.  I cut exactly 1 in the line of duty, and the car was on it's roof.  The occupants were not injured, but we're agile enough to free themselves.

That said, I want the Huntsman Lite sooooo bad.

I actually have the 58mm and 91 mm knives on their way to me from Japan. I’m a sucker for Stayglow, and I love the fact that using the lights will actually charge the scales.

Make sure you post some photos.  I'm sure friend Fireman wants to salivate over the Huntsman.  I will put on my sunglasses to look at them.  Don't want to over-expose.  Best wishes.  G

So, we're talking about a Midnite Manager with StayGlow scales + a standalone whistle.

Wish Victorinox would bring back the SG scales in the various sizes, I'd sure get some for my SAKs.

I read somewhere that the SAK scales were made in red so they could be more easily located if dropped.  That was a good idea.  The glow in the dark scales take that to another level.  Best wishes.  G

I got mine on eBay. Fingers crossed that they're legit, but at least the sellers seemed to have great feedback. The Huntsman Lite is supposed to be here today, so hopefully I'll be able to get some shots of it.

Last weeks seller I thought was located in Japan.

One listed the knives yesterday, was in Tiawan, but just neon yellow not rescue.  Not same😢

And, had a recommendation from Swiss Army Store

It confirmed I had seen it before, similar config to my Hunter cat in orange. I think this has a glass break option!

Yeah, the 111mm have been out for years.  I think our friend Surge UK carries one of them?  Evidently the 91mm and 58mm are the Japan only exclusives.  I saw the 58mm listed for anywhere from $60 to about double that.  Yikes.  Best wishes.  G
