Happy 7th June!

Incredible to think that the founders of two of America’s finest companies share a birthday.

Happy birthday Tim and Sal.

They should make a few models together!

Absolutely agree, although I’m not sure if there’s much benefit to Leatherman in that.

I like Spyderco products a lot, but I don’t know what they can do that Leatherman don’t or couldn’t already.

Do they own any of the fancy blade steels they use?

I believe SPY27 is proprietary to Spyderco.

Here is Larrin’s write up on it if you are interested.

I like the idea of the exotic steels with special properties, but it all goes way over my head!

I tried to understand a bit about how it all works when the company that makes Magnacut was in financial trouble, but I still don’t really know if the Arc will still be Magnacut, if it’ll be the same steel with a different brand name, or if it’ll change to another steel altogether.

From a personal perspective, I’m happy all this research and development is happening, but I’m not going to pretend I really know what mixture of hardness, corrosion resistance, durability, and edge retention is best for me

Both companies have tried to do a knife based multitool before (at best) modest success. Maybe if they could figure out a winner together.

I think Leatherman and Spyderco could probably work together and come up with one hell of a knife-based multi. Maybe something like a Crater with a Spyderco blade in one of their proprietary steels?
