bladeless saks
on: June 17, 2025, 12:04:49 PM
I'm an old SOSAK member who forgot his password and have been lurking on MTo for years.  I came back from vacation and found I had to register, so I may as well  ask a question.  Does anyone know what is up with the bladeless alox saks that Victorinox was talking about a year or so ago?

Welcome back    :D     :tu:

I personally have not heard anything - Best I could say was to check the John Gadget video on YouTube - When he went to Ibach - But that was some time ago now.

I do remember all the Vic senior managememt went nuts when Mr., Elsener wanted to show JG a prototype
Which to me signaled that release was some way off!!

Yeah, the John Gadget video was really interesting for a number of reasons. I recommend checking it out if you haven't already.

As far as blade-less SAKs go, I can definitely see a market for something like that, even if I wouldn't want one myself in most cases.

I picked up a modded one for $30 to try taking on cruises and the like. It's got scissors, the file-hook from a Compact, an opener layer, and a corkscrew I think. Don't have it on hand at the moment, but will try to get a pic up. At that price, I won't be heart broken if I can't talk it past security.

Definitely think it's a good market for Vic to get into. I think they'd sell a decent number, and anything that can help make pocket knives more mainstream again is good for their overall business.

I look for them to release something like a 3 layer 91mm with opening layer with the box opener and scissors layer and then cybertool layer and no awl on the back side. That seems like a very domestic modern type of 3 layer and priced at around $90 because anything with the cybertool layer is going to be pricey. They could do 2 layer without the cybertool and it could be $40. It's very easy to put together a bladeless SAK because there is a lot of implements to choose from but scissors and cybertool layers are kind of a no brainer. I don't think we are going to see bladeless 93mm Alox stuff in the near future because they are probably saving the upgraded blade steel models for that at $30 to $50 increases.

Not a SAK but a SAK-alike. Fox just released a bladeless version of their Vulpis with an opener layer and scissors. 74mm long with either aluminum or titanium scales.  Also has a pocket clip.

Not really my thing, but it looks decent as far as a bladeless knife goes.

I have one of the bladed versions, but wasn’t really impressed with the scissors.

I think there will be a market for more bladeless SAKs (I say more because they already offer the Jetsetter), ASSUMING that they are generally allowed through security checkpoints that don’t permit knives.  If they generally aren’t allowed through security anyway, then there won’t be much point.

I agree.  And as long as the determination of what is permissible is left up to the whims of the individual security guard, then I personally won't risk losing a knife tool to them.
