Day 30

I enjoyed the challenge with you all.   :hatsoff:
It reinforced the fact that I could get along well with a Classic on a daily basis.
I mainly need a package opener, some scissors and the occasional nail file.
Closing out the challenge with an engraved Tiffany Classic.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Day 30: FoBe summed it up perfectly for me.  I only ran into one time when I needed to resort to something else that was too much for the Classic.  This has been a great time with a great group of people! Thank you all!  Thank you, Gus, for hosting this!

I love that the one badge size has Bender from Futurama.  A guy in Canada made me this custom Zippo.

Classic challenge, final thoughts:

Is it fair to call the most sold knife in the history of the world underrated? Maybe not underrated to the "normies" who just pick up a knife to meet their immediate needs but underrated for us SAK-aholics who obsess over tool layout, size, materials, mods, etc.  I've had a classic on my keys for over a decade, but If you asked me what my knife is, I'd immediately answer, "the pioneer," without giving a second thought to the classic. Why is that? Its not like I didn't use it.  I often used it more than the pioneer, especially the scissors and nail file for grooming.

But if there's one thing I've learned from this challenge, its that I can accomplish a lot with just the classic.  In fact, I almost wish I'd done the challenge in the spring so there would be more possibility for outdoor use and equipment maintenance, etc.  I really didn't have much opportunity to push its limits.  There was a couple stubborn screws it couldn't do that my pioneer would have had no problem with, but for most things it was fine.

That said, if there's another thing I've learned, its that the classic could never be my main tool in a world where the Rambler exists.  Other than price, which isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things (and maybe the lack of alox), there's no reason not to choose the Rambler. And while the Philips/combo-tool is useful, the main selling point for me is that by opening the combo tool when using the blade, you effectively double the handle of the knife making it far more easy to use. The main drawback of the classic for me is how fiddly it is to hold when cutting.  I never quite feel like I have a great grip on it.  Even with relatively small hands (for a man).  But the Rambler solves that.

And with that said, does that mean I'll be EDCing a Rambler? Not likely.  I don't find it a hardship to carry the pioneer, which means I would rarely use the blade on the classic (before this challenge, I don't recall ever using the blade on my current key ring classic for the past 3 years).  So the alox classic is still my choice for my key as i don't really need the combo tool and the thinness makes it disappear until needed.

So, enough of my pointless ramblings (no pun intended).  Thanks everyone who joined in and made it a fun time!

there's no reason not to choose the Rambler

The Rambler's real 3D micro phillips is a big selling point, since much of the world is held together with those small phillips screws.

While I love the Rambler, I also really like having the micro pen - which leads me to the Manager.

Its not as thin as the Classic and Rambler. but so it goes.

I was absent one day and had three pages to read.

Wow you guys nailed it this month.

I lost count, but I think I added maybe 7 or 8 CLASSICS to my collection, many with themed scales, one translucent OCEAN BLUE, to round up a DLT purchase for free shipping.

And, I retrieved two CLASSICS that were in need of new scales. The scales were to arrive last weekend but think the storm caused a delay. They arrived Thursday and today were installed.

Barry requested the STEELERS SCALES. will be in the mail soon.

These have a nice texture and GItD, feature.

And, speaking of donuts, just this morning I played with a new mini waffle maker and a hack I saw using Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls. (I used a 5 pack.
First two were sacrificed to get the timing right!

These three were heavenly! With morning coffre

Thanks for putting up with my visiting and comments, and I did walk away
With a refreshed perspective of the CLASSIC, yet hungry to find a EXECUTIVE😉
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

DAY 30: The Stayglow Classic didn't see much use beyond helping remove a thumbnail that got smashed a few months ago and was about to come off on its own anyway. The scissors made quick work of it, without me having to worry about cutting myself.

I can’t say that I’m too surprised that Classic was able to handle most of my daily tasks. There were a few times I had to tag in the Leatherman for tightening Phillips screws that were just too big for the SD tip on the Classic, but for the most part, if I thought the Classic was capable of handling a task, I went with it. And really, the only time I had to supplant it was at work. At home, I didn’t really feel the need to use or carry anything else.

Could I live life with just a Classic in my pocket? Yeah, probably. But, in the end I like having a little more blade and handle. Also, like gustophersmob said, it’s hard to recommend the Classic over the Rambler, especially when the price of a Classic is getting closer to the Rambler’s.

Btw, that’s frozen salt water in the attached pic. It’s been a little chilly around here the past couple weeks.

Day 30

Seems like we have made it to the finish line. Didn't need a knife today, so no usage to report. I thought I would just take a glamour shot of all three precious alox I own. And hey, why not include an Armadillidium gestroi also?

I've learned that I really enjoy carrying my Classic on the neck lanyard.  It's right there when I need it, and I forget it's there most of the time.  Coupled with my SOG keychain tool and I'm ready to go!  My new life, working in a grocery store, finds that the Classic is a perfect companion for me.  I spend most of the time either cutting open letters and packages, or using the scissors to do the same.  I usually have an Opinel in my pocket for the bigger things, like kitchen duty. It's fun to go minimalist!
That said, my trusty Swisstool RS rides in my center console, and my Leathermans and Swiss Champs are always handy.  It's nice to have options!
