looking for leatherman parts and tools
on: February 25, 2009, 05:08:55 PM
 Hello fello multi tool fanatics.
I have gotten the itch to start modding my leatherman multis, I managed to get my hands on security torx for the lm charge and surge but have found nothing to remove the odd bolts on the kick and blast multis. Does any one have these tools to remove these and some spare lm kick parts? I would be very interested.
Thanks

Can't help with any parts, but I believe that using 2 Kick pocket clips as wrenches will undo those knurled screws for you.

I'm assuming all the knurled screws on the blast etc are the same size so yes.

DaveK, Bob or Neil will confirm for certain though.

FYI: The Kick pocket clips will work on the knurled screws used for the blade pivots (which are the ones you'll be removing to do your mod work) The knurled screws used for the plier pivot are just a bit larger, and the pocket clip won't fit them.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

The pocket clips are for the knurled screws, not the tamper proof "security" torx bits! LOL The two security torx bits can be used to disassemble the whole Charge TTi! You need two security torx bits by the way!  :tu:

I'm pretty sure he knew that as he has already mentioned the bits.

Yeah, but the discussion was about the tamper proof torx bits and I asked what would you mod there; and he said my TTi!

Agreed, I wouldn't think you would need to remove the bigger knurled screws where the plier attaches. (on your Kick or Blast) :-\

It's frustrating trying to find spare parts for Leatherman mods. Several of us have tried. :(

One good option is to use SOG parts, which are readily available. Member jzmtl added a SOG file to his Leatherman Fuse recently:

It is possible to remove the knurled screws using pliers. I us ethe Kick pocket clips where possible, but for the other sizes I use a LM Crunch to clamp one side, and find that the grooves in the Charge plier head match pretty well to the "teeth" on the screws. You have to go really slowly as you get minimum grip, and it's very easy to damage the screws, but it can be done with some patience.

I used to come here a lot.

Well you need to get some or your multi will be all scratched and dented :D

Another thing to remember is that the screws are held with loctite, so you need to apply a fair bit of steady pressure to break that at first. That's where I always slip if I'm going to. After that it's just a case of slow and steady.

Oh - and make sure you remember the order all the parts need to put back, I dare say you'll be surprised how many there are ;)
