I'm not really big into Camo stuff and I thought I wouldn't like any of the Camo multiools but when I saw this in person I was amazed how cool it looked.

Hmmmm...I don't see it listed at TYLER TOOL or at MOONTRAIL. They both are usually the first to carry any new Leatherman variations.

I wonder if the camo Blast was some sort of exclusive release?

It was $56.95 and there was lots of them at the store. Unfortunately the Academy Sports and Outdoors store I got it at is 2  and half hours away and I don't have any plans to go that way again for a while.

Hi All,

After learning about this, I googled Academy and got the following response.

Thank you for visiting www.academy.com. We do not offer on-line shopping at this time. However, our stores in Pensacola FL, Franklin, TN and Corpus Christi, TX can accommodate phone order requests (limited to stock on hand).  If you would like to contact either store, their phone numbers are as follows:

Pensacola, FL (850) 473-3800
Franklin, TN:  (615) 435-8341
Corpus Christi, TX:  (361) 992-9022

All items are shipped via UPS.  Please note that these stores are not able to ship firearms, ammunition or items over 85 lbs.

If you are replying to this e-mail please reply with history.  If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.  You may also contact us at our toll free number, 1-888-922-2336, Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, central time.

Sincerely,

Customer Service Department
Academy Sports and Outdoors
1800 N. Mason Rd.
Katy, TX 77449

I called the Pensecola store and was told that they didn't do phone or mail orders.  I then said that I had an email from the Corporate Customer Service Department stating that they did do phone orders.  The fellow I was talking with asked if he could go and check.  When he returned, he said they would take my order.  He took info about where to ship and my phone number saying someone would call within the hour for my cc info.  Amazingly, they did.  That was on Tuesday.  Today - Friday - it was here.

As to cost, they charged me for the tool, shipping and Florida sales tax.  Total was $68.36.  Not bad for a future collectiable.

Hope this helps - Joe

I've been reading a bit on how they apply these fancy paint jobs. The same process is used on camoflage colored firearms, wood grain finished automotive dash boards and steering wheels, psychedelic cell phone covers, etc. It is called Water Transfer Printing. There are actually a number of steps to the process, but the pattern is actually transferred to the item in a tank of water!

Apparently the desired pattern is on a thin film, which dissolves on the surface of the water. As the item to be colored is slowly dipped into the water, the color pattern adheres to the surface. It is then removed from the tank and sent on to be baked and clear coated. Meanwhile, a new film is placed on the water, and the next item is dipped, etc, etc. Pretty neat!

I found a couple of brief explanations HERE and HERE.

The second company, Dynamic Finishes, will even do single pieces for you. They show many different camoflage patterns available HERE.

That's the Realtree pattern that is popping up everywhere at the moment. www.realtree.com has more info.
I used to come here a lot.

(With my name done in Carbon as well, just a different weave so it can be seen in the right light)
