Scariest Tool
on: November 28, 2014, 08:43:49 AM
A while back, I visited the medical historical museum in Zurich. And I have to say, of all the tool in existence, medical tools trump in elegance but they are also scary. On top of the scary tool list are the bone saws and those are lead by their king:

THE OSTEOTOME
Used to more efficiently cut bones. This is the grandfather of the chainsaw, a marvelous piece of engineering.
The osteotome was invented bythe German physician Bernhard Heine in 1830.

I find the osteotome to be fascinating, scary ingenious. What tools scare you?

That bonesaw is extremely scary!

The most terrifying one I saw was a trepanning kit but I'm too scared to find a picture of my worst nightmare...

Trepanning is scary, but those tools mostly look, like they would hold still and cut very evenly...

This thread is a wee bit frightening!
I woke up in the middle of the night and started looking through it and had a hard time getting back to sleep.

My husband has very little interest in my tool obsession.

He LOVES weird medical stuff. So, obviously, he loved that thing.  :salute:
