British TV-Shows
on: November 28, 2014, 04:20:54 PM
I for one am tremendously fond of British TV-Shows, from Top-Gear to IT-Crowd, from the Fixer to Sherlock Holmes (all installments). I think having fewer but longer episodes allows for a better story, but especially I like their dryer more cynical humor.

So, what are your favorite British TV-Shows and Movies?
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

My current favorite:

You might have guessed it, its:
DEATH IN PARADISE

Stiff British cop (that's probably a pleonasm right here ), is sent to the Caribbean, where he has to solve murders. Not only is it always sunny (or stormy) in this tropical paradise, it also used to be a French colony and has a French population :ahhh.
Apart from a stunning scenery, lovable characters it also has a great sound-track...

Absolutely love, Last of the Summer Wine. I just realized the other day that Bert Kwouk, "Entwhistle" is Cato from the old Pink Panther movies.

I agree. I'd rather watch "Britcoms" than American sitcoms. It's a more "cerebral' brand of humor.

You guys should check out Spaced (same team as Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead).  Very nerdy comedy, should fit well with you lot.

and

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

I've really enjoyed Peaky Blinders and am very happy that is going to get a third season

I dont's see any TV now, only documentaries from BBC and other channels (Discovery, History Channel, National Geographic). I might make a thread on these.
In the past however, as a pupil and a student, I was a fan of British TV. Here are some shows I enjoyed and remember to this day.

Mrs. Powernoodle and I watch the British crime dramas on Neflix:  George Gently, Sherlock, Vera, Foyle's War, Luther . . .  .  They all blow moronic, ignorant American network tv out of the water.

When i was kid, i loved show Lovejoy.

Since my wife spent many years in the UK we have a tendency to watch some UK TV from time to time as well. These days it's mostly been stuff like:

Mr Selfridge
Downton Abbey
Grand Designs
QI
Have I Got News For You
The Graham Norton Show
The Apprentice (UK)
Broadchurch
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

My favourite atm: Sherlock!

Feels more like single movies than a series, but I like the overall character development.  :tu:
Absolutely no comparisson to the american Sherlock holmes productions, is it?

I also enjoy Monthy Phyton in any form - And movies like Shaun, Hot Fuzz, 4 Lions etc seem to be a worthy successor :D

I really dig stuff about the 22nd Regiment, especially the Eddie Stone/John MacAleese1 docus and Ultimate Force2.
Also Bad Lads Army3, a concept that would have turned to smurfsmurf in any other country but came out great in Britain.  :D
