So here's the thing. Today I received a PE Spyderco Dodo, it's used and has a huge chip out of the edge that is actually half as wide as the bevel grind.

Now, I've got another PE Dodo that I've sharpened with my Lansky but it was a pain and never really came out the way I wanted. That and I've never had to sharpen out a huge chip like this. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the best way to handle this. I've got a Lansky set-up with fine/medium diamond hones and a Sharpmaker. Is there anything I'm missing that might make it easier?

I'd prefer not to send it back, it's rare enough that loss in the mail would be a big problem for me.

If you want to sharpen that out you'll end up totally change the blade curve, if I were you I'd just sharpen it as I do a not chipped dodo and leave it.

Actually think it as a single serration, not a chip.

How about a "Mid-Blade" wire stripper feature?. Sorry about your luck.

you have to file it all the way from the beginning till the tip of the blade to keep its original curved shape as close to original as possible, and then sharpen it

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I guess I'll just give it the ol' regular sharpening routine and eventually  it'll work itself out through use.

Coarse hones by hand or send it back to Spyderco. Your tip looks a little borked too.

I'm jealous though, even with all that. I'd love it I always wanted a Dodo. Nice catch

Little update: I rebeveled the blade to 20 degrees with the Lansky and it took slightly more than half the chip out. The chip doesn't really affect the function now so I'm not worried about it, should work itself out over time. The tip came back wonderfully too, nice and pointy now.

Now I need to find some PE Black models, my Dodo collection is almost complete!

When you say 20 degrees was that per side or inclusive? What was the original angle?
