Yet another SOSAKer
on: March 29, 2009, 03:27:35 AM
Hello all.  Some of you may know me as Lord Kafer from the other forum.  I've been to these forums a few times as a guest but I was waiting to join until I got my new Swisstool Spirit.  It's my second real (over $5) Multiplier type tool, but by far the best of the two.

I got my Gerber about 15 years ago.  I like the pliers and the knife blades, but the other tools are junk.  Nothing locks except the pliers.

Of course, being a SOSAKer, I have lots of :climber: as well.

Only two multitools? Hmmm, I guess we'll make an exception and allow you in. Please try to work on that collection a bit though. ;) :D

Heh, actually I just got a '79 SI off ebay.  It's a little rough, but it'll do.

Welcome!  2 huh?  Give it some time.  The first Leatherman seems harmless enough...

Next thing you know, you're chasing every variation of the PST and the Charges are stacking up like firewood.  :ahhh

Heh-heh, welcome Käfer!

I guess that depends what you mean by multitool. . . As far as Multi-Pliers go, any suggestions?   :D

Strangely, none of my SAKs have pliers.

You know, i don't often take group shots of my SAKs.  I'm kinda afraid to count them all because then I might think that I have enough ;)

Here are a couple of my mods:

And, the only portion of my collection that I have gathered together in one picture (111mm's):

(Rucksack, +B PE SG OHF, SOSAK KOTY 2006 OHT, Red Locksmith)

Welcome Kafer! Multitools have evolved a bit since that old Gerber huh?

Spend some time reading the reviews here and you'll see that Spirit is held in high regard by lots of people on here. I'm currently in a retro phase and would prefer the Gerber :D

Welcome dude. Any '78 soldier perhaps? :D

Man, you know I am actually looking for one of these now - just for you!

I used to come here a lot.

That would be the older phillis drive, square sides instead of round.

Yep, the phillips has flat interior sides but is rounded on the outside.  Very comfortable.  The one I used also has a file on the flat side visible in the photo.  I don't really have any dates as to when they were produced.  Unfortunately, after putting that one together I discovered that the tang is thicker than on modern knives.

It actually works fine, the back tools are just a little tight.  I'll eventually take it apart and redue it properly once I decide on a chrome plating service.  Files are the only non-stainless implements on SAKs.

. . . I did check here before buying the spirit.  Thanks guys!

I might consider buying an updated version of the Gerber.

Just for you guys, I got together some of the SAK subsets I have for photos.

The first three are Farmers, then a Pioneer Harvester, a Pioneer, a '79 SI, and a lumberjack.  I have a few more alox models on the way.

A three blade +B Hunter, a +B Jungjager, a Solo, old and new Pathfinders, a Trooper, and a Mauser, with a Mil-Tec Gak on top.  Hmm, I have more 108's then 111's. . . wierd  :D  The only other 108 I think I would buy is an actual Vic GAK in great condition.

84s!  I had another traveller, but it's in the parts bin now  >:D
