I finally did it
on: April 16, 2009, 03:58:29 AM
Well the little one has expressed and interest in shooting and see's me cleaning my guns so I broke down today and bought this for her to shoot. I have one already but this will be built specifically for her. I have ordered a Charger stock unfinished for it so I can dye it purple. I will have to leave the barrel length the same due to Federal regulations but it will be very similiar to the one thats in my Avatar.

That and it was priced just right brand new.

Here is a pic of it stock for now.

Now I am searching for Hunter safety courses so they can teach her above and beyond me. Its something I firmley belive every person should have to go to.

Very nice!

Just this year, my father gave me his first rifle (he got it from his father in 1936), a Winchester 06.  Beautiful gun.  Enjoy shooting with your daughter!

I still have great memories of when my grandfather first taught me how to shoot on his property with the 10/22. These are the memories I treasure and I bet your daughter will to :)

That's awesome. I have a 4 year old son that I will be buying a rifle for in a few years. Although since I'm about half blind I'm gonna have to get someone else to teach him how to shoot. I used to be a pretty good shot but now I can't hit the broad side of a barn.

The Ruger is a good one to start her out with RM. And as she gets older she'll never really out grow it. :)

Get her a 25 round butler creek magazine so she can spend more time shooting and less time reloading.

No, no need to spend lots of money, but definitely put some glass on it. I recall as a youngster being somewhat bored with shooting. Sure, it was fun to make the gun go BANG and all, but I couldn't hit the broad side of a bus. But then the day came when my dad put a super-el-cheapo $15 air rifle scope on the .22 Marlin I was shooting. Even though that scope was crap, it was ten times better than crude open sights! Suddenly the whole shooting game was transformed for me! I could actually hit what I was aiming at!! (And clearly see what I was shooting at!)

Magnified optical sights are a wonderful thing for new shooters. :)

I like smaller mags for new shooters.  It emphasizes shot placement rather than shooting fast.

I did my first gunpowder shooting on an old Ithaca Model 49 single shot.I learned a lot about sighting, windage, trigger pull, and ammo choice.

Mine was a Remington .243.  Not only learned how to shoot it, but I had to do my own reloads.

.243,one of the best calibers ever :tu: When you develop your own loads, you do think a bit more placement, don't you?

A lot more about placement.  My step father taught me how to do it, kept me from carelessly shooting and made me think, which in turn I believe made me a better shot.  It got to where I could shoot aspirins off of toothpicks at about 25 yards with my Benjamin pellet rifle...freehanded.

A non-shooter would find it hard to believe but there is a lot of thinking involved in the shooting sports, far more to it than pointing downrange and spray and pray.If you have a kid that's not too hot on science, take them shooting and they'll get a good primer on physics.

I will stick with the 10 rounds for now and let her enjoy reloading the mags. This will teach her to enjoy the shots more than emptying the mags quickly and doing it again.
