It's the same thing as cheap one, just with a fancy base.

interesting.  I am in the market for a sharpener one I can use effectively with my limited sharpening skills.  I think I will give the Spyderco Tri-Sharpener a go.
I remember looking at a review on Youtube doing a review on a very similar product as the poster's link above.  He said it worked quite well but the carbide sharpeners took off a fair bit of metal off the knife each time he used it.

Mike and I played with it at SHOT this year and it was kind of cool, but I wouldn't want it as my only sharpener.  I'd suggest if you have issues with sharpening, stick with the SharpMaker or Lansky systems.

I got the Lansky system, but how is it for just maintaining the edge from the factory? It’s bit of a drag using the lansky when all you need is a little maintenance now and again. I guess it will work fine on my kitchen knifes from IKEA.

I use the Lansky for more heavy duty stuff, and I use a dog bone for every day stuff.

I really like my Sharpmaker for keeping the factory edge up and for reprofing as well :tu: I also use some of the DMT sharpening cards for on the go touch ups :) I have some of the pull through sharpeners but since I got the aforementioned stuff I rarely use them :tu:
