More usefull kick
on: April 27, 2009, 01:30:00 AM
Something like this has been done before here but this is my version.  I picked up a used Blast because I needed the plier head for another project so I decided to see which tools I could stuff into a Kick.

Only modifications needed were a reduction of material on the saw tang and scissor handle.   I may eventually decide to replace the can opener with the mini bit driver and the saw with the file. But I will try this for now.

Some before and after pics.

That's a great job there Dennis.

Does everything open and close easily enough? It looks pretty tight for space in there!
I used to come here a lot.

It was pretty tight getting the 4 implements on one side.   But all seems to work very well and the tools open fine.
The handles on the side had to be spread out a very little bit.  I added a washer to the other side to make it match. You would never know without me mentioning it.

I must say, I do like the idea of it.

I'm a big fan of the dimensions of the Kick, but the lack os scissors is a bit of a killer for me.

You know hat would be good to see in there? A bit driver. Gimme ten minutes :D

I used to come here a lot.

Dave, it's very easy. I haven't taken apart an AL Charge, but the Ti ones are quite easy now. What you want to do is put the washers in between the scissors and small bit driver and large flat and small bit driver. Then, put the tools in the handle. After that, you take a toothpick and make sure the washers are aligned. Then, you put the male screw in the left side looking at the pliers. I don't know if your doing this to an AL or not, but if you are, you need to put the lanyard ring in first then the piece that goes over the male screw. I apply a small amount of blue locktite after as well. I hope this helps!  :)

EDIT- the AL series washers have flats on them whereas the TTi's washers don't. I haven't done this to a AL so I can't help you now.  :(

I hope this wasn't extremely confusing or anything!  :D :D

I must confess, it has become easier by about the eighth time :D I can actually remember where everything goes now, and thi sone's back together as good as new ;)

I'm sure its a lot more fun with the right tools to take them apart :(.

It's a lot easier that's for sure, but in some ways, less fun :D

Great job on the Kick mod Dennis. Got me thinking about my modded beater Kick. I still have room in the handles for 1 or 2 more tools.

Great work, Dennis!  :salute:

I have grown to really like the size of the Kick, and it makes a great beater too.

I wonder if it would be possible to also swap the can opener for a file?

There is only room for two long tools because of plier head clearance.  So basically whatever 2 you like better out of the blade, file ,and saw.
