the trident tanto has arrive...
on: January 23, 2009, 11:07:16 PM
well this is my first proper knife and i love it

it came really sharp, it feels so sturdy and no play on the blade at all...the opening fast and secure and is so LIGHT!!!(thanks Zytel)

only one thing, i dunno if is just mine but with some twisted wrist movement it can be opened like a gravity knife, is that normal?

heres the rest of the pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/cliosguy/SogTridentTanto#

How's the texture on the handle...doe it actually work and gives grip or is it just for looks. Same applies for the gimping ???

i love it how the pocket clip is right on top as far as it would go...really good for a concealed carry :)

well the handle is quite "grippy"  the gimping, besides the satin finish, offers a really good grip

Your pretty lucky to have the Flash Ben...in Aus you can get the the Flash(as I would really like one for an EDC knife) because the flash series has that SAT assisted opening system which can't be imported to Aus :ahhh

BTW I would recommend you to get the SOG Aegis in Digicamo...just to piss me off :)

Are assissted openers illegal to own in Australia then?  I thought you had similar laws to us on that respect where auto's/flick knives where illegal, but AO's were ok.

From my rough knowledge of Australia's dodgy customs...I believe that it is legal to own an AO but illegal to import one into Aus...be aware that I am not 100% sure about this and this is from a QLD point of view.

Australia pretty much has similar laws to you poms. Except I believe that the custom blokes think AO are also Auto's ???

I think the laws in QLD are a little less strict than in other states like Vic. I also think that the laws in Aus might be a little less strict compared to the UK's. I haven't heard much about size limits and how a knife should lock in Aus. Pretty much in QLD all you need is an excuse for you to have a knife on yourself(what ever you say don't say self defense!). Thats why i always carry an apple with me...lol :) Also SAK's are legal in Queensland to carry about as I believe that are for utility purposes :) I don't know how loosely the term SAK is used in the government...I think it could cover for Leathermans, Gerbers and Sogs etc.

Nuf about stupid laws back to the awesome blade :tu: And get yourself a Sog Aegis ben :P

BTW cliosguy...thanks for the nice pics...gimping looks mean :)

Your customs sounds a lot like ours.  ::)  ATM they are being very picky and I have even heard stories of Spyderco UKPK's (you know that knife designed to be legal EDC in the UK  ::) ) being seized as they are being labelled as gravity knives.

AO's are readily available here in the UK but I'd never import one, even though they are perfectly legal to own.

But anyway great knife.  :D

I'm back!!

Knice knife! :D  Good luck with it.    I'd like a review on it, especially the Arc lock, after you use it a while.

How does the line cutter feature work? I've heard it doesn't actually work well.

Ahh yeah now I remember why I never got one, low rider clip with knife company's name stamped on it in big easy to see letters...

Good luck with SOG sending you a new spring.   (legal reasons)

Gerber which is known for "Fend for yourself" wouldn't send me a replacement part
for an old style Multiplier, seems too many IDIOTS were hurting themselves.

So I wrote an interesting e mail to Gerber's President and asked how could I fend for myself if I can't get the parts from him?

Next thing you know I get an email with an offer of him sending me an old broken MT out of his desk drawer so I could fix mine.

I was afraid that could happen and was a reason why I got my Nitrous Blitz as that uses a completely different assisted system.

I wonder if my Sog Flash will end up like that.  :(

Mate that sucks :(

Why can't SOG make knives with AO spirng without the AO system...making it more legal ( and making me legally have a SOG Aegis!!!)

Cliosguy does it lock without that spring? If yes, perhaps that's also the answer to Tinnie's question: take an Aegis and remove the spring. :)

TBH I just want knife companies to make AO and Non-AO of the same model...

How hard is it???

Yeah the arc-lock(or whatever is the name) still work, the assisting spring is a separated system...so basicaly yes, now is a manual knife(but nothing wrong with that, still super-fast :tu:)

being a little bored one morning I took my sog apart and yes you can remove just the spring and make it a non-assisted opener and it will still lock.  the locking mechanism is a separate piece.  might be worth an email to see if they would mail you a spring.
