The Great Summer Movie Thread part two
on: June 03, 2009, 01:11:20 AM
Ok so far we are still rolling with a better than average summer for movies. Terminator,Woverine, and Star Trek have kept us entertained. Now we want more!
Now it's time for Transformers, Avatar, Harry Potter, GI Joe, and Public Enemies.

Still wish there was a (legal) :D way of watching new movies from the comfort of your castle. I do hate the crowds, highly inflated box of Sour patch Kids, stupid kids, and fecal covered seats.

With you there Pacu, crowds always makes me uncomfortable. But I'm lucky I live in the province where the Cinemas are not full in fact just watched Night at the Museum II with the family, there is only about 30-40 people in the whole theater.  :)

I'm not fond of crowds either. If I could I'd avoid places like the cinema during weekends, evenings and school holidays, but as I'm a teacher that's not easy.

I try to avoid the times when it will be full of teenagers talking and lord knows what. They sit there pissing about and sending texts, throwing food at each other and generally making it impossible to relax and enjoy the film. That's what I go there for - to be enveloped in something, not reminded every other minute that I'm surrounded with f*ckwits.

I have been known to go and threaten them with something like "you get one warning and this is it, shut the f*ck up or I will get you thrown out"... "are you planning on paying for my ticket or are you gonna be leaving?" Or other pleasantries like that  >:D

Oh, and I'm looking forward to Transformers. I thought the first one was a great movie!  :tu:

Here we also have the joy of seeing the movie completely dubbed into Spanish. They rarely show English movies in English... seems like we get all the other artsyfartsy films in original version though... as long as they aren't English of course... then the government complains that Spaniards don't take learning English seriously compared to other European countries...

I generally wait for an R5 release and watch them in English. Downloading is not illegal here... only selling is. While I don't have a super home theatre, at least I get to watch them as they were meant to be. (Robert DeNiro and Al Pachino dubbed is just wrong!)
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

Guys, if I can keep even one of you from wasting money on that two and a half hour waste of film called Transformers, I'll consider this a success.

Some of you may remember that I thought the premise of giant, powerful alien robots would attempt to destroy the world just to win an eBay auction seemed a little thin... well, it's bloody Shakespeare compared to the second one.  Devastator has testicles, Jetfire walks with a cane, Megatron is actually some other, nameless Transformer's whipping boy... and how could I forget the hot teenage Decepticon chick that tries to rape Sam with her tail?  Oh, and the most secure military base in the world that didn't notice a giant robotic cat falling from the sky in a ball of fire until it knocked the top off a ventilation shaft and threw up into it?

I won't even go into how racist the twins are with their gold teeth....

There's more, but I'd hate to ruin it for anyone who still wants to see it.  If you are sitting on the fence about it, make sure you fall on the "save your money and rent it" side....

Now before anyone says I am needlessly bashing something, the special effects were decent, and it's always a pleasure to see Meagan Fox:

That having been said, I wish they could have hired some writers to make me care about the Transformers that are getting killed.  As it was, I really didn't care that Prime was killed, except that I always thought Optimus was one of the greatest characters ever.  Well, the old Optimus anyway- this new one seems kind of lame and wussy by comparison.

I was unimpressed- your mileage may vary...

I just got back from seeing the midnight show of TF. And I have to agree with allot of what Def said. But for the most part I liked it. Maybe that's because I wasn't expecting much.

No other Prime ever compares to the G1 one. He's the greatest.

I'd love to say I'm surprised, but I'm not.  After the first outing I had no hope whatsoever that the second one would be any better.  It's not even on my "to rent" list.  Now if the first film had one tenth the fun and style of this add it would be worth watching.

Now I don't know if this aired on the other side of the pond but you should note that it came out a couple of years before the transformers movie.

You got that right!  :D

I have an Optimal Optimus from Beast Wars that usually sits on my desk, and a bunch of Micro Transformers (all G1) on my desk.

In addition to the Decepticons I also have Red Alert, Optimus (of course!), and Jazz.

Nope...

Just generic, nameless Decepticons that look like Ents that are there to make the special Decepticon hunting wing of the army look good.  I'm surprised Megatron didn't paint red shirts on them.
