While I'm not fussed about the Shard, I would like to say a huge  :tu: to Grant and any others involved in setting up the shop.  I think we all understand the difficulties in setting the price on any units; to much and nobody will buy them (us cheap? you bet  ;)), to low and risk not covering the overheads.  Also the profit margins aren't consistent on each item, adding 50% to a $5 tool is only $7.50, do the same to a $100 tool and the price becomes $150!  So take your time Boss and make sure you get it right, we can be patient (honest) and nobody wants to see you stressed out by this.  :tu:

Grant, if you're determined to do this a mt.org-branded shop (as opposed to a generic mt/knife shop), it would probably be wiser to work your way in a "group-buy" fashion, where everything (of significant total value) will be on backorder untill an adequate number of preorders is accumulated. The standard scenario I've seen till now is the shop owner announcing he'll carry some new item, floks of potential buyers stating "they'll have a couple", then the owner ordering them and all of a sudden several buyers backing out, leaving the poor guy with a stock and a debt. We can all understand the need for some precaution and I'm sure the people around here wouldn't mind some wait time if it is for the well-being of you, the shop, and the forum.

Anyway, here's to a good start. Godspeed Def!

I must be one of the folks here who doesn't get all warm and fuzzy about the Shard. This may stem from having stabbed myself twice with an Artifact before I sold the bugger, so I am now programmed not to go near things that look like it!

However, to support MTO I would defo be in for one  :tu:

I have to agree with noth and do a group buy. I'm sure most people who've posted in this thread will get one or two or three but nothing like having a guarantee that X amount are sold.

You'll be hard pressed to stab yourself with the Shard as despite the pointy sounding name, there's no blade on it!

The Group Buy is something we are looking into as well.  I like to keep as many options open as possible as long as possible.

The info I am getting is February 2010.  I already have a distributor lined up for when they become available, provided we can't get something from Gerber before they become available!  :D

I'm out here visiting in Idaho and I just picked up four Shard's. Are they hitting the streets early?   I think they are really cool, but I still feel they are a direct copy of an Atwood XL mini Prybaby.   ::)

Yes, I agree that they are awfully similar. I still desperately want one though!  :D

I see the need for a budget Atwood tool and I think the Shard fits that bill nicely. I just think they would have given credit to Peter for the Shard. I also think that Peter should make a tool that everyone can afford. These are just my opinions, so please dont take anything too personal.   :salute:
