OK I know there are a ton of us that are banned from other forums. So tell us what site and how.

My first banning was fromEDC forums for I guess just being me. Got into a post war with someone and made a very rude comment about his mom Choc. syrup and several leather clad Midgets.

If you are a FB friend and read some posts of mine you will get my humor.

So speak up the banned ones or I will out the 5 I know of :ahhh

Well I nearly banned myself from here

Other than that I nearly got banned from a Bushcraft site as some people on there were bitching about some cops who were only doing their jobs.  I waded in and spoke my mind and upset the "pack attack"....(don't go there often now especially as some of them started to put "ACAB" in their sigs  :twak:)

Anyone else...

I don't post on many forums - mainly just lurk and read.

Never been banned so far as I can remember, although I've been cautioned by mods on various forums.  Last time I was cautioned was here on MTO.

Only J-sews knows how close I came to actually being banned from MTO.  ;>

I can honestly say that I have never been banned or cautioned.

I have had a few of my posting deleted on one of the local forums occasionally because others can't play nice in the sandbox, and the whole threads went up in smoke to wherever Admins and Mods send them for quarantine and delousing.

Banning is an interesting topic...  out of 1,300+ members here, there are only a handful of banned members.  I would be hard pressed to think of 5 members who have been banned from here, other than blatant spammers.

In my "moderating career" here and on KF, which spans about ten years (give or take) I think I personally have only banned maybe five members total.... so one every two years doesn't seem like a bad average!  And, as any mod here will attest, there's almost always a thread that's twenty some pages in the private Mod's forum about warnings issued to members before that member truly goes over the edge and gets banned.

I'm glad our Mod staff doesn't feel the need to "power trip" on the internet!

He's right, bannings are very very few and far between and are thoroughly discussed and measures put in place before they are decided that they need to be done.

Actually I can Verify this personally. Not to tell stories out of school I was present when one got banned. It was at the meetup at Sebago and I was very impressed on how long it took to do it. There was a very long discussion between the mods and even one playing devils advocate. I was actually happy to see how the whole process was done and proud of how this was done. I now use this method on the site that I mod on and fouond it to be great for not only allowing people to argue(if kept civil) and the free flow of thought.

By the way there are two mods activly on here. If this post is something you dont want discussed about how you ban. trash it.

I don't think I've been banned from any other forums.  To be honest, this one and KF are the only ones I have ever stuck with for any length of time.  I know for a fact that I've almost been banned on a few occasions from KF, but that was years ago, before I was a mod there, and mostly because I told a Mod that he was talking out of his @$$ on numerous occasions.... and I was told by another mod that he didn't so much want to ban me as punch me in the face.

Not going to trash the thread John, but we may have to ban you over it!  :P

I was banned from the forums at smnnews.com, which is a feat in iteself.  It's basically a Metal forum where anything and everything goes times ten.  Porno, swearing, some of the mose sickening "humour" and comments EVER...

I mainly lurked there for the news/reviews of upcoming albums...I like reading reviews by regular fans than "Metal journalists" or professional reviewers.

But anyways I was banned for saying "I hate Pink Floyd.  I assume you have to be under the influence of drugs to enjoy their mindless dribble." or something to that effect in a thread about a member of Pink Floyd dying...Of all the downright sickening garbage that's posted there everyday and the most vile of pictures...that's what got me canned! :D

I must confess I don't "hate" Pink Floyd, I just don't "get" them.  Glen Beck on his radio program a few Easters ago read one of the last books of the Bible (Matt, Mark, Luke, or John can't remember) over a Pink Floyd song and it was really good.  It was the song that starts with the clocks....

Never been banned myself, but I know a guy who was banned from Bladeforums. It was really uncalled for in my opinion. In the midst of a thread discussing a particular (somewhat rare) folding knife, this guy happens to mention that he has one, and that if the price were right he might be willing to sell it. BAM, a short while later his post gets edited with some big embarrassing message about what they do with spammers at Bladeforums. You see, he was just a Basic Member, and at BF you are supposed to upgrade to a paid membership before you can sell anything. Which is fine, but it wasn't like he was advertising this knife for sale with a price and everything. Anyhow, he comes back and makes a post protesting the heavy handed and embarrassing way the moderator edited his previous post. Ten seconds later and he was banned, no warning or anything. What a load of crap. ::)

He pretty much gave up on internet forums after that. I haven't seen him online since.

I was banned from BF forums once!!  I couldn't believe it because I didn't feel I had done anything wrong.  I was ElCuchillo on there, and had a great relationship on there with everyone, so I thought.  There was this one mod, Blues, who was a real pain in the ass.  He was always on some power trip, changing posts, moving things where he saw fit, whether they really belonged on there or not, just a real "I'm in charge, so you will do as I say" kind've guy.  Heck, we got into a discussion on dogs one time (I was a dog trainer at the time, mind you), and we were PMing each other, and I got a lecture on how I should use my real name when PMing him, it's disrespectful not to do so, yaddy yaddy yadda).  I used to post there to keep my fellow forumites informed on various things, and he'd move it into forums where I didn't know anyone.  Plus, people used to post things on there all the time about themselves (fellow forumite jackknife was one, who's stories we ALL loved to read), many times not even dealing with knives.  However, anytime I'd post something on there I'd get warned or "spoken to".  I think the straw that broke the camel's back was when I posted something about a gator bite I got at work, or a close call, and I got red flagged and a PM from Blues (Elliot is his real name, by the way.  He made SURE I knew his real name, because that's what a man does.......!?) because my post wasn't about knife related material, and he was tired of me constantly breaking the rules, and always talking about myself, and about how the site wasn't about me, etc.  I told him that was bull, that people posted on there all the time about their day or what not, and we kind've went at it after that.  We argued, but he reminded me that he was basically doing me a favor by keeping me on there despite me being a nuisance.  I told him to delete me, and he said they didn't delete accounts, so in a fit of rage I told him he WAS GOING to ban me, I wasn't giving him a choice.  It was a fact whether he liked it or not, and I did get banned.  What a pain in the @$$ that guy is!!!  That is my only ban that I remember, although there have been many forums I have not returned to just because I forgot about them.  Not too many worth while forums out there, to be honest with ya.

Reading this thread reminds me why I like mt.org so much.  I've been a member of forums/groups before where everyone was uptight and I just don't feel comfortable in that atmosphere.  I've never been banned from anything ever but on a couple occasions I have exiled myself over what I thought were abuses of power or disrespect.  Life is too short to not have fun doing what one enjoys.

I understand why some mods try to enforce a set if rules for the good of all, but mt.org seems to almost regulate itself. Maybe the mods do such a good job behind the scenes that it just looks that way, and the mods are always polite in my experience.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the mods for making mt.org what it is, and it is truly a fun place to hang out.

BTW is there a mt.org history page somewhere?  I'd like to read up.  The one downside to the lack of power trippers here is that there is nobody posting saying "I started all this, bow before me"

Cheers mt.org

:)

What's ACAB?

I hate to say this but depends on the place cops doesn't always have the best of reputation. Here a while ago they lied to the judge to get a house search warrant, then got swat to kick down the door at 5 AM even thou the search warrant tells them to knock on the door after 7. One cop ended up getting killed by the homeowner thinking it's a home invasion. Then there's the RCMP tasered a guy to death at airport less than a minute after arriving, then lied throughout the inquiry to cover themselves. Just two days ago the commissioner uncovered even more evidence of cover up and he publicly said he's really pissed at RCMP.

Mind you despite being a member of a few forums, I can't really be bothered to post much, so I can't really get into trouble   There is a certain shooting forum I know of that features bannings regularly  :D This is really the only forum where I can muster up the interest to post, although I have been falling behind badly of late. It stands for:

People who put ACAD in their sigs are immature, bigoted pillocks who should either grow up or b*gger off.
