jacknife help needed
on: June 28, 2009, 01:25:50 AM
what is the army version of an SAK called? i've "googled" everything i can think of without luck. it's all metal, dimpled scales, blade, awl, can opener, & screwdriver/ bottle opener if i remember correctly. usually has USMC somewhere on the scales & has a lanyard loop (not too sure what it's called).

part 2 - i want to but a good one, but where?

thanks

Sorry just read again and if you are wanting the lanyard ring you either want the Victorinox Pioneer or a Wenger SI.  The Pioneer as the keyring type attachment and the SI has a bail which is like a big loop at one end.

maybe i didn't explain it right (but thanks for the quick replies!)

but this is not a SAK in the Victorianox/ Wenger sense. it is a multiblade serviceman's knife. there actually may be a version with a brass piece which locks the blade.

my frustration of being unable to describe it is probably why i can't get a search engine to show it....

Are you talking about this one? It's the Camillus (now out of business) usmc knife, but you can still find it on the net, can't remember where I've seen it thou.

Ahh yes, the Demo knife.  Just a warning, it is a heavy, rough-around-the-edges type knife with historically bad springs (they break), bad edge retention on the blade, and nail breaker blade pulls.  I wanted one too until I handled one and found that my Wenger SI is much more refined and just as tough.  Cool knife though if ya really have to have one.

Ontario has taken over the production of the Mil-K. I haven't seen one in person so I don't know how they compare with the Camillus versions - Ontario Camp Knife

My guess is that it meets Mil contract specs.

I wonder if they upped the quality any.
