US Post Office
on: January 06, 2010, 12:00:37 AM
I have a major annoyance - and problem - with the post office in this town:  they always screw up international orders.  The two I use in Raleigh are wonderful when it comes to international shipments, and have mostly friendly and knowledgeable staff.  The one here?  Their workers are inconsistent, ignorant, and completely oblivious to what their own website says.

Case in point:  Chako's package shipped off last week with barely a hitch, and shipped for the priority rates.  This time, and with the same supervisor's aid, a package to Australia ended up going Express (I think?) because the same Priority shipping to Australia with insurance was unavailable unless I paid more money. *sigh*  And had I run Neil's package through their half-assed system here, too, would've been even more hassle.  So yeah, the workers here don't know what they're doing, and I'm only trusting them with domestic orders from now on.  It's going to be a major annoyance, but whenever I'm away from Raleigh, I don't think I'm going to be able to do international packages (except for those to Canada and Mexico) unless I'm able to find a post office around here with halfway competent workers.

Err, whether this goes in The Break Room or the Feedback board, move it wherever it needs to go.

Our Post Office here is like standing in a bread line in Siberia with 3 toed Sloths at the helm. I feel your pain.

See, the time it takes in them doesn't bother me that much - frankly, if I'm in and out in 45 minutes for international orders, I'm happy - it's just that this post office has no idea how to properly handle and charge for international packages; the two I use in Raleigh are quite proficient at them, and will use the correct Priority rates whenever I use a flatrate box - it's anything but proficient here. ._.

ah yes the USPS
when someone complained about long lines,  and long wait times at a post office in Texas, the solution was to remove the clock.

So it's like trying to send a Western Union to Germany at a Walmart in backwoods Kentucky. :D

The post offices in Brooklyn, NY are not much different, they've lost a few of my packages. Insurance is a must :tu:

Its funny the major PO in Cartersville are very nice and know me by name, but it takes longer to get a package somewhere than if I used the smaller 1 person PO the next town over.  They are only 8 miles apart.

That's because terrorists like the Unabomber prefer to use smaller offices.  When the packages may contain explosives, folks want to hand them off a lot faster!  :D

Use USPS " Click n Ship " and you don't have to go to the PO - the carrier who delivers your mail picks it up, and you get FREE Delivery Confirmation on Priority Flat Rate parcels - BOTH domestic and foreign !

Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !

How long ago did it say delivered?  Give it two days; sometimes a discrepancy happens between the package going out on a truck and it not getting delivered that day. :/

I had a small envelope delivered today at 11am along with some other mail, the envelope that got lost shows the delivery time as 12:45pm. I'm hoping you're right, but it's been at a sorting facility not too far from me since yesterday.

Yuppers, a similar occurrence happened to me; the package arrived the next shipping day - of course I'd already returned back to university by then, but it did arrive.  Good luck with your package, DonVito. :)
