Key rings
on: June 30, 2009, 07:55:44 AM

What key rings do you guys use (pictures), and where do you get them? It seems like all the clips and such that I see in stores are really crap.

Does anyone carry one of these CountyComm A&P Mechanic's Key Rings? Likes/Dislikes?

I'm thinking about snagging a couple but the shipping is almost 6x the cost of the dang keyring.

Seems like it would easy enough to drop one in an envelope and slap a stamp on it! Geez. Maybe I'm a cheapskate. Wouldn't be so bad if I needed something else from there. </whine>

I like the look of this one here with the paracord/heatshrink (or whatever that is on the end) to protect from scratches.

(this picture was borrowed from Cuso on another forum)

What do you guys think?

I did the gutted paracord thing to my key ring last week.  Its a nice look and it actually quiets the keys a little.  I used blue paracord but think Ill switch to orange to make it more visible in case I drop them.

If anyone knows where else to get these, I'd be grateful for a heads up.

Here's info on it: http://countycomm.com/ring.htm

I am thinking about ordering a few and then just offering up the extras for $3 shipped  (+-)  . Anyone interested?
It's only 3/16" thick and you can post envelopes up to 1/4", so it shouldn't be problem to post them first class mail for the price of a stamp here in the US. I can also throw in some paracord/heatshrink (if you like black or tan).

The only issue with the two top ones, and I am speaking from experience, is that they act like a camper's emergency tree saw. They will cut through a loop on your jeans in little time resulting in lost items and keys if you’re unlucky. The second one with the covering is a much better idea.

Just something to watch out for.

Just Google Flex-o-Loc. They are very easy to find on the Internet, and have a plastic coating over the cable.

I recently got 4 of the 6" uncoated ones (about 2" diameter) on Ebay for $6.59 shipped. The plastic coated ones are probably nicer, but for the price I can live without the coating.

I strongly suggest that if you do use one that has no finish, use a "My Key Pal" or something like it. Better safe then sorry.

I did see those, but for some reason i'm leaning towards the screw on connector.

What a surprise that I didn't think of the obvious at 4 in the morning. Looks like I might be able to find a reasonable deal there

Only if you plan on looping one of the plain aricraft cable ones around a belt loop. My father was forced to buy a key pal after it chewed through his belt loop inside of a month on his work pants.

Rodion, what is the Victorinox belt clip-looking item?  I've not seen one of those before, at least, not to my knowledge.  ???

Im sure I would take two.

I'm sorry, I didn't notice you posted that before. I already bought 4 from ebay as I said. My wife wants to use one, and I need two, if you can live with one, you can have the fourth with my apologies...pm your address and i'll drop it in the mail...

Here's a picture of one with and without one of the paracord colors i have (the other being black)

I'd be more than happy to either put the cord on for you, or send a piece of paracord with a couple pieces of heatshrink in the package, or just the HS if you want to use your own gutted cord.

No sweat at all.  Why don't you keep it, you may find you want to use it for something else.  I really appriciate the offer though.

it's a msg away if you change your mind...
thinking i'll eventually swap the cord out for a brighter color to make them easier to find if drop them or something.

one's going to go on my spare keys set...and the other will keep a bunch of misc. crap in my bag all together...split pea lighter/knife/etc/etc

lord knows what my wife wants one for...  ???
she wasn't forthcoming.

How do you know it's USA made? And why does it matter?

The package said so, also the company is located in California and they have the strictest standards for saying if a product is made in the USA or not. It matters because I like to support my country's economy.  :salute:
