My new Surefire...LX2
on: July 05, 2009, 01:03:41 AM
I got a new Surefire the other night and after having some to play with it and carry it I wanted to share some pics and my thoughts about it with you fellas.
This is the new LX2 Lumamax. It replaces the L2 in the Surefire line and it is a scorcher. This light as many new things from SF. New packaging, new design pocket clip for a two cell light, and a  new body style without the aggressive knurling. Something SF is call a fluted body style. Also new for the LX2 is that SF as moved the electronics from the body of light to the head making it possible to use other 2 cell heads on the LX2 body and the LX2 head on other 2 cell bodies. The LX2 has a TIR optic for a very concentrated beam for throw. It features a two stage tail cap the you press lightly for momentary low and harder for momentary high. Turn for constant low and turn more for constant high. After spending sometime using the light I have come to love it. The two way clip works better the one used on the E1B. It rides a little high when carrying it bezel up but us held securely in place. I like the new body style and have always liked the the two stage tailcap. OK done with the talk here is some shots.

Surefires new packaging is a step up from their previous style.

You can see the new body style here and a size reference new two two other SF two cell lights

LX2, E2L, L4

Here are some LEGO options that open up now that SF moved the electronics to head of the light and left the body open.

KL4 head on LX2 body for a two stage light. LX2 head on the L4 body for a single stage clicky light.

Some shots of the pocket clip use and the LX2 is hand.

Now to some beamshots. Here is the LX2 against the E2DL an light already well known for it's throwing ability. The LX2 sure is a barn burner. >:D

For those who want flood you can use the F04 diffuser for perfect artifact free flood.

Some longer range shots.

Thanks for looking. I really love this light.

I was wondering what was that light you have in your newest EDC pic, guessed it was LX2 but wasn't sure.

That's a great light Prime77.  I've been one click away from ordering one but, have held off so far.  200 SureFire lumens ought to be enough to start a fire.  Be careful not to use your light in bed.

Thanks for the pics and review. My LX2 should arrive this week and I sure hope that I find my new LX2 to be that much brighter than my existing E2DL.

How does the beam/output of the LX2 with F04 compare to the beam/output of the L4?

Here is the LX2 with F04 vs the LUX 5 100 lumen L4 and the new Soul 120 Lumen L4.

It's brighter than the the older L4. The newer L4 has a good amount of throw to go with the flood. I was EDCing the new L4 before I got the LX2. It is a good compromise between throw and spill.

Nice light - it's on my short list, still have a couple more A2's to get first.
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !

Well it looks like I'm going to jump on the bandwagon too, always wanted a 200+ lumen light with L1's optic. Just ordered one off ebay so hope it'll be here without hassle, going to sell a couple of things so hopefully no money out of pocket in the end.

Yeah I think I will. Had an L1 for a while, the only thing I wasn't happy about it is the size as far as 1 cell light is concerned. Love the beam from the optic thou, so this one is pretty close to my ideal light.

That is a really nice beam. As wrong as it may sound to some, that is the first Surefire I've seen that I'm impressed with. And as such is the first Surefire to make my wish list.

prime, that is a dead sexy light.

I've recently got into flashlights (after a long list of other hobbies.  It's a natural progression right? :D).  I started with the E2DL, then got a 6pl which I got a Malkoff M60 drop-in for and a  G2 led.

The difference between the LX2 and E2DL is amazing!  I like the head down capability for pocket carry compared to the E2DL.

Thanks for the write-up!

No problem. The output of the E2DL is great. But output of the LX2 is awesome. One of the best lights I ever got.

Just picked up LX2 from the post office, got stung for tax, $#*&%(# customs...

Haven't had a chance to test it yet, don't like the clip much, gets in the way too much, wish there's something to fill the space so I can take it off.

If you don't like the clip you can try to give SF a call and ask for the long or small e-series clip. Both of them fit the LX2. Or you can try CPF and trade it with someone. The two way clip is pretty popular over there. Lots of guys are looking for one.

Do you know which short clip is compatible with LX2? One off L1 maybe?
